According to the Express paper of yesterday [saturday] the veil worn by muslim women is banned in a lot of countries, including Muslim countries.Holland, Italy, Belgium, Tunisia and Turkey have all banned the scarf, veil or the whole thing outright and a few of them impose on the spot fines for wearing them anyway. Most of them have said the ban is stop extremism, although scarves are allowed in religeous buildings but not in public places buildings or offices. So no, non Muslims do not have to wear the veil unless they are going to a church or temple, which is fair really. I wouldn't go the Vatican without a scarf on my head

I have been chatting to a Muslim friend from 'Turkey' about the subject and apparently.
The Koran doesn't say that women 'MUST' wear the veil. It is a personal choice. And that women even in Muslim countries often choose not to wear them.
In Turkey (a predominately Muslim country) women who choose to wear a veil are expected to remove it in government buildings (so that would include schools and meetings with ministers then!!!)
So the answer to your question would be NO - women in Muslim countries, can wear choose to wear a veil or not, whatever they're religion.

Pretty much the farther you get away from the middle east the less you will see woman wear the veils. I used to live in Senegal which is Muslim in its fashion and I never saw a native woman in any kind of head dress, they really only seem to be keen about all the rules in and around the heart of the Muslim world.

but in all other muslim countries no , it is not even a rule for muslim women there : take the list of countries i'm sure no woman , muslim or not, is forced to wear it :
North africa : egypt (my country and is called hollywood of the arabs because it is well known for cinema and music) Lybia , Tunis , Algeria , Morroco
the Gulf : Kwait , Qatar , emerets , bahrein
el Sham : Palastine , Lebanon ( the new arabian hollywood for video clips and models..:) and Syria (become famous now for Tv shows)
in near Asia : jordan , Iraq , Turkey
in Far Asia : indonisia, fillipine and malisia
other islamic countries some of them have a majority of vieled women some are not , but they dont force women specially non muslim women to wear it
i hope that helps , thanks ....

I also went to Egypt once and Musulmana is absolutely right. It always depends on the country. Many people here have heard reports about Saudi Arabia or Iran and then they think all other Muslim countries were same, which is not true.

It depends on what country. In some stricter, fundamentalist countries it is required even for tourists or visitors. However, I am an American Muslim (convert) who has chosen not to wear hijab. When I went to Egypt and Jordan I did not wear it there either. It is a choice for women, however, many are not free to make this choice. Many younger girls in Egypt are removing hijab on street and then putting it back on before they enter their house (presumably so parents don't know). But many women in Egypt are now uncovered.

Depends where.
Indonesia is predominantly Muslim and in most parts foreign women (even INdonesian women) aren't EXPECTED to wear a head dress, no.
Don't fret about all the Muslim bad press.

The fact that this question is being asked shows what a screwed-up world we live in. The sooner all these superstitions and mythologies are banned the sooner this world can live in peace.
