The allergy is caused by cat dander. Here's what to do:
1. Cajole a non-allergic housemate or friend to brush the cat daily and bathe him weekly.
2. Ask your veterinarian about a spray for kitty's coat that will minimize dander.
3. Replace curtains and drapes with solid blinds, carpeting and rugs with hardwood floors or tile.
4. Minimize overstuffed furniture in your home.
5. Vacuum regularly with a vacuum cleaner equipped with a Hepa filter.
6. Invest in an air purification appliance. Compare the Honeywell and Alpine Air systems.
7. Wipe down walls and flat surfaces regularly.
8. Keep your bedroom off-limits to the feline brigade.
9. Ask your allergist about making a serum from a sample of your cat's hair.
10. If you don't yet have a cat, consider a shorthair over longhair. They tend to have less dander.

Get some allergy medication, there are plenty over the counter that work, you don't even need to see a doctor. If these don't work, then see a doctor or allergist.
I use the Equate Chlortabs version of Chlortrimeton, which was recommended to me by my dermatologist, this works better for me than Claritin and all the other loratadine formulas. These are only good for 4 to 6 hours though, but if it works, that is all what counts.

i know lots of people who're allergic and/or have bronchial asthma, yet that does no longer discourage them from having cats. many people merely use that as an excuse reason they do unlike cats or do exactly no longer prefer one. i exploit an air purifier and take meds and have no subject with cats. i'm in rescue and characteristic many in my domicile. to boot some people are waiting to construct up an immunity and gets over the hypersensitive reactions if uncovered to cats long adequate.

My boyfriend is very allergic to cats, he touches one and then touches his eye and it swells and gets red. I usually give him a Claritin to help that and he is usually fine. Another thing is to have hardwood floors, the carpet holds the fur and dander in.
