We, except American Indians, are all descendants of illegal immigrants. It is only a stroke of a pen that defines a current illegal immigrant. America's strength is our diversity. I say make all illegal immigrants legal, all they need to do is pass a basic educational test and give them a green card...A basic American high school education test. Passing the English competency test is required. I think everyone should be able to pass this test.
I still think it is a good idea to learn Spanish. If they can come here...(South Americans), we should be allowed to go South to work...As long as we past the same type of test.

No, but that's not why we learn spanish in schools.
Having learned two languages, it's easier to pick up a third and a fourth and so on. So many Americans go on vacation to other countries and expect everyone THERE to just learn English-- it's the same as immigrants coming here and expecting evreything to be in spanish! So if we take spanish in school, and we go on a cruise to, say, mexico, we can speak the language instead of being arrogant. And if we want to pick up french later on, we can learn it easier because it's similar to spanish and english in different places, and we can visit french-speaking countries and not be arrogant.
Also, there is no official language of the USA. It was never declared. If it was, it would not be legal to print spanish translations on road signs, instruction manuals, et cetara; at least, that's my recollection of why it wasn't declared english.
and for those who say "stop living off our money"-- so you want to pick grapes in the fields, clean houses, all those jobs where they get paid below minimum wage but need to be done? They form the basis of cheap labor so that people like you and I can work better, more highly-paid jobs. They've replaced slave labor in our economy, doing jobs natural-born americans don't want to do; I've never seen an american CEO who doesn't speak very good english, have you?

Funny all the people who are for it because it helps improve yourself have their answers well written ( spelled ) and all the ones that answered in an ignorant and intolerant way can´t even spelled right the only language they speak and supposedly command, I guess being an inbred redneck really stunts the growth of your brain, whattayagonna do, right?.........
