Pour it in a glass (preferably a snifter), swirl it around and warm the glass with your hand so the flavours get stronger. Dip your nose in the glass and enjoy the aroma. Enjoy in small sips, keep it in your mouth for a while.
Usually cognac is enjoyed after a good meal with coffee. Or with a cigar.

I'm quite shure drinling it straight is the only way to go. I'v never heard or done anything else.

You do not drink it, you savor it. The smell as you call it is the bouquet. Please send the cognac to me, someone who would appreciate it.
