I had my male dog fixed about 3 years ago. The vet said after it was all finished that he wouldn't be mounting anything anymore.

We recently got a female puppy, who is fixed as well, and this male is always trying to mount her.

Do fixed dogs do this?

he wants to remain the dominate one.. doesnt matter if he's fixed or not. my mom's terrier does this and he's been fixed his whole life.

Yes they do, my male dog got fixed and the vet that did it said he will not lift his leg to pee, or mark his territory, and he will not mount/hump/ HA He still did all of that! LOL I think it really depends on the dog too. My dog was a very dominant alpha male guy. Although the vet said it would stop that too -_- But what ever I do think it is all in the dog, and I don't think that any kind of surgery will fix it. Training could help, like if my dog got like professional training, the kind that is like thousands of dollars I'm sure that he wouldn't have been as dominant, but who knows.
But ya I don't think getting your dog fixed helps that mounting problem lol
Sorry I don't really have any "advice" for you. All I can say is what happened to me. Also my female dog that was also fixed mounted/humped her best male friends head -_-
So I don't think it works for all dogs.

Yep..it's a dominance thing. I have 2 females and 1 male..all altered ("fixed") The male has never mounted or humped anything. My one female does it all the time. She will just smell another dog and start humping the air (I hate that!) She even lifts her leg to pee.
My small dog isn't as dominant over the other dogs, so she tries to dominant the cat by humping it.

This behaviour has very little to do with sex and a lot to do with dominance. Your male dog is used to having your house and attention to himself, so he is throwing his weight around to show who is boss.

It is usually quite simple to fix this type of behaviour. You should not make a fuss when you see him doing this, and certainly never drag him away, as this will be seen as positive attention by your dog. What you should do is to distract him from the behaviour by a sharp shout, blowing a whistle, or throwing something that rattles onto the floor near the dog (a small drinks bottle with some gravel in it is good). Do NOT throw the bottle to hit your dog, you are trying to startle him not traumatise him! When he stops what he is doing, call him to you and make a big fuss of him when he does so. He should very quickly learn that the behaviour is unacceptable.

Sometimes this has to do with the age your dog was fixed. If they are fixed between 4-6 months of age, they will not develop this type of behavior. Of course, there is always the exceptions.

male and woman canines will mount however in the journey that they are fixed. it truly is a dominating trait. yet, does the dogs have his equipment? If no longer, do not difficulty about the mounting. Your lady will positioned him in his position.

I am glad you asked this question....
I have the same problem, but my male tries mounting with the male dog next door.
My dog is territorial and protective, so it very well may be a dominance factor.

He's trying to establish dominance over the female. This isn't a sex thing as much as a ranking issue.
Fixed dogs do this.
