The 'want' overtakes the 'need' when you are stressed.
Impulse buy takes control. It is the soothing thing to do. You just buy because it gives you comfort, solace.
It is not materialistic. It is something you do mindlessly. After you accumulate like crazy, you just throw them out even before you get a chance at using them.
Many of my clothes, tonnes and tonnes of them, have never been worn. Some, still in their plastic wrapper with price tag and all - gets thrown away. It is insane I know but we all do it. I still do it. Because I am under stress.
I called Salvation army the other day and literally filled their truck with things I do not want. The truck driver was appalled at how I can throw new things.
To some - it is car, furniture, diamond jewellery. I am cheap. I buy little stuff for happiness. It is the degree of materialistic posession that varies from person to person - depending on the thickness of their wallet.

You feel like you must have all of these items to be proper, perfect, good, attractive, fun, and, then, you cannot afford all of them. So, it stresses the heckamongadoodle out of you. It does it to me.

Materialise people tends to do something which only gives benefits to them. When they can't achive it, they feel stress because stress is something that pushes us to achieve something
