1st day.
get the lay of the land by taking a guided tour, either on the circle line ( 3 hour,35 mile boat cruise around manhattan on the hudson river. a popular and informative tour , especially attractive when the weather is good, though its still ok if it's no - boat are covered and heated.
or double - decker bus , ending with a dinner of tapas and spanish wine at tia pol ( 205 tenth ave ). follow the itinerary for two days. on day four , venture out to one of the outer boroughs - walk over the brooklyn bridge then relax in prospect park. and head to boerum hill - or take the 7 train to astoria - where art and film museums and greek food galore await.
then enjow an excursion out of he city - a day trip to jones beach in summer or an overnight jaunt to the hamptons , whatever the season.
pick a quirky walking tour for the day u return and explore a downtown 'hood more completely - take time to observe the action at the tompkins square park dog run or spend hours in a chelsea cafe.
have dinner at that place. on day six hit a major museum like the met - 1000 fifth ave at 28nd st - or score half price ticket to a broadway show at the tkts booth - 47th st at broadway
have early coctails somewhere fabulous , like the bar of the tribeca grand - 2 sixth ave at church , walker and whie sts - then go clubbing late into the night

wow visit ground zero? thats a great place to go.. a-s... I wouldnt quite recommend going to ground zero since i go through it everyday and there really is nothing there to look at. all they are doing is reconstructing, but it your really that interested go right ahead. Downtown is a definate must. There you will find South SeaSeapot, you will be around gothem city, visit City Hall, relax on the benches at city hall park and take pictures of the gorgeous fountain they have placed in the middle, take pictures of the wordorf astoria, the first skyscrapper hotel. Walk down broadway and pass Wall Street, see the Bull, go to battery park which is down broadway, you can take a ferry and visit the statue of liberty, elis island, etc. ummmm make your way to mid town, visit time square. if you can, try to see a broadway show. then keep going north (take the A train) to 59th street, and you will be on columbus circle, the big mall that there is there is called the Time Warner Building, its a hotel and a mall, and a food shopping center all in one. its gorgeous. Shop around there eat lunch go to boarders if you want to chill down and read a book about ny. across the time warner building is Central Park. Go to the great lawn, make sure you bring warm clothes tho cuz its gettin kinda chilly. And finally walk around there and you will find lincoln center, where there are ballets and the opera house. If you want to do other things theres tons of things to read and you can just do. But a week in ny is a must if you havent done so already

I went to NYC for 5 days and had an awesome time! The first day we went to Central park and our hotel 5 blocks away from Times Square, so we were down there for most of the night. The next morning we went to the TODAY show (GREAT FUN!) and then we went to the statue of liberty and ellis island (really interesting). Mostly, we were down at time's square..its amazing down there. We didn't make it to Ground Zero, but that would have been good to see!
