I've known women in their early 40's who have had normal healthy children. just because your over 35 does not mean you will have an unhealthy child, just means you have a higher risk. if your concerned be sure to talk with the doctors and have the genetic testing done. good luck.

Every pregnancy is different but if your wife has already had 2 children (were they vaginal or cesarean sections?) then this pregnancy should be similar. I am a Labor and Delivery nurse and we have been seeing more women having babies in their 30's and 40's and ,like most pregnancies, these are without complications.
A few factors that cause a pregnancy to be higher risk are when the mother is a teenager or over thirty-five, very under weight or over weight, when the mother smokes, when pregnancies are close together, when the mother has had five or more pregnancies, with multiple C/Sections, or poor maternal health. Your OB doctor should be able to answer your questions and provide you with information. Don't be afraid of asking her. For a healthy pregnancy the most important factor is a healthy mother and that comes from good prenatal care.
Congratulations on the new baby. Your concern and participation in this pregnancy means more than you realize.

She will definitely have a normal childbirth specially that she already has 2 kids.
If this is her 1st child then the likelihood of a normal childbirth is lessened but since this is going to be her third then it is most probable that she will have a normal childbirth.
37 is not yet very late for pregnancy but it is considered to be a high risk pregnancy but since this isnt her 1st child then the risk is lower than other women at this age having their 1st baby.
Good day!

Anyone over 35 is considered advanced maternal age, but more & more women are waiting until their 30's to have children so they can have a career 1st. As long as she is getting good prenatal care, everything should be completely normal. (As long as her other pregnancys were normal). I was 35 when I became pregnant with my 1st child, and had a healthy baby girl at age 36. Good luck Dad & count your blessings!
p.s. also, my mother had a healthy child at age 42 after having 3 previous children!

Define "normal"...do you mean not a c-section? No complications? She has as good a chance as any woman in today's managed childbirth system, an even better one if her two previous kids had "normal" childbirths. Some doctors might put her at a higher risk because of her age.

Yes!! I have a co-worker who is around that same age; she has two kids, both in their 20's, and four or five months ago delivered a beautiful, healthy, 7 pound baby girl. So your wife just needs all of your love, help and support, and prayers!! Every pregnant woman deserves to be pampered every now and then, so don't be afraid to do so! God bless your beautiful family; and I hope everything turns out okay! Congratulations!

It sounds to me as if this is your first. Has the doctor indicated there should be anything to worry about. If not,she will do great. If so, her OBGYN will use every means available to insure the health of both your wife and unborn child. There are so many tests that can be performed. As far as her age, there are many woman in their 40s having babies. My mother had nine children. She delivered my brother at the ripe age of 42, that was 29 years ago. Relax and enjoy your miracle. Congradulations and Good luck

yes there is a possibility for normal childbirth but she is still in high percentage of having a C-section which is actually considered to be better for elderly women. it is not problematic and much easier for the mother with no complication after wards. It is actually very helpful that she has two other children and it is not her first time because her body wont crash under extreme imbalance of homeostasis and will manage to balance it out. Best of Luck

Why couldn't she? Are you concerned about her age, or has the other two been caesarians? Many older mothers have natural childbirths, and just because she may have had a caesarian also does not mean she can't go on to have a natural birth (I did!) As long as her pregnancy is going along smoothly she should be fine. Bring your concerns up with her doctor or obstitrition.

Why not? I had my youngest at the age of 41. My mother had me at the age of 43. My son and I are both perfectly healthy and have above average intelligence. Try not to worry so much. Count your blessings, Dad. Chances are everything will be OK.
