We had this problem years ago. We moved into a house where there had been a no pet policy, but they'd had a dog anyway--and fleas. We used diatomaceaous earth--nontoxic and works like a charm with one application if there's no furry animals around anymore! (it takes more applications if there is a pet still) We got the diatomaceous earth at the flea market, along with a little pump kind of applicator, but I don't think you need the applicator, really.
Below are the basic instructions. Obviously you don't need to do step 2, and probably not step 4 (we didn't). Do make sure to get natural DE, though, AND use a mask because the particles are really small and get into your lungs.
Good Luck!
How to use it:
1) Wear a mask and put one on your pet. Even though it's nontoxic, you don't want to get it in your lungs.
2) Sprinkle the DE along your dry pet's spine. Massage it along the body, working your way carefully to the extremities, avoiding the eyes.
3) Spread some diatomaceous earth on the carpets, brush it in and leave for about four days. Then vacuum it up to remove most of the fleas in the carpet.
4) Repeat the application frequently during an infestation. You should notice a decrease in fleas within a couple days.
NOTE: Make sure not to use the kind of DE used in swimming pools. Use natural diatomaceous earth; it is available in gardens supply centers, some health food stores, and from natural-pet catalogs.

Well fleas need a blood meal every 24 hours and you aren't it really. They can't survive on human blood. I recommend mothballs in the vaccum. Vaccum everything - under couches, beds, tables, entertainment center whatever. Throw out vaccum bag. Keep vaccuming though because there are flea eggs in the carpet probably too and they can't be vaccumed up unless they have hatched and are at the top of your carpet. Tell the person that has the kitten that it has fleas and should be treated for those and possible the tapeworm that fleas carry. No worries you can't get that tapeworm even if you ate the flea (as the kitten probably has).

Hire an exterminator. In the long run it will be faster, cheaper, and easier. If you choose NOT to do this, remember: These fleas can live anywhere. The eggs live in small cracks around your baseboards...everywhere. If you bomb, don't be stingy...do it well. If you use the powders, they aren't as effective and...as soon as you are finished, get rid of the vacuum cleaner bag...outside! You are right that the fleas won't return as easily now that the cat is gone, but getting rid of the ones you have won't be easy. Once again...hire an exterminator!!! And no, I don't work for one...just been there, don't that...It's much faster, easier and cheaper in the long run.

When my sister moved back up from Florida, her animals all had fleas and when she moved out of our house she left some of them here. We had to bomb the house twice, the first time didn't do it. It sucked, but no more flea bites, thankfully! It's probably not a bad idea to wash everything afterwards, if you think about it, there will be dead fleas all over, yuck :P. Be sure to follow the recommendations on the flea bomb instructions. Good luck!

Do your little cat fleas go meow???? lol and do they hiss when a dog flea comes around.....lol
I am sorry just could not resist that...
Seriously, the fleas sound like they are pretty imbedded in your home... you have to get a treatment that kills them in several of the phases of growth... like when they are eggs and when they are jumping on ya.... if not they will just keep a comming...
sounds really sucky.... and yes after you bomb you are going to have to wash all your dishes, blankets, and pretty much everything... I think that stuff is an aerosol and lands on everything... just call the orkin man if you can afford it... hope ya can... if not it will be hard work to get rid of them with grocery store treatments...
GOOD LUCK!!!

do no longer use any chemical compounds on the kittens or mom, exceedingly the chemical compounds like income, via fact those visit her blood flow and then for the period of the milk directly to the kittens. Use a flea brush on the mum and kittens, get all of the nits out which you will and while a flea gets caught interior the prongs of the comb squish it. it is the main secure thank you to do it.
