If so, why are you a member and what is your religion and denomination? If not, have you ever been a member of a church. Also, if you are not a member of a church, why not.

You know mine is a completely unique experience so please don't use it as gospel to validate your current situation. I was a church goer all my life. I went to Bible college and I married a Bible College girl and that ended up in a divorce. That didn't keep me from church though! I remarried some one for Love sake next time around and I am still married 18 years now. However, as church goes we moved to Wisconsin and went to several churches till we found one that we felt God wanted us in. The people at this church however, were back biting and flat evil. So we tried again, yet another church full of "clicks" and off we went again. To make a long story short, I stopped going. I never stopped believing, but I will wait for Gods answer, to this bizarre set of circumstances. By the was I was raised a Baptist, went to Baptist churches until we ran out of Bible believing churches. I loved all the Baptist churches I've been a member of, except these here in Wisconsin. I really don't fit in here but my work makes me stay.

Yes.
I am a member because I want to raise my family in a church that is open-doored, unlike the one I grew up in (which was Baptist). My husband and I are now Methodist. When we decided to marry many moons ago, we knew we wanted a church wedding, but neither of us attended church...because of the way we were both tainted by it as children and Young adults. A lot of churches are filled with hypocrisy now, and I think that's the biggest turn off to society in general.
We were driving around and saw a church with bums laying on the doorstep that had slept there overnight. We went to the service the following Sunday, and a lot of those bums walked right in and sat down for the service. They were embraced by the congregation, stinkiness and all.
That's the one we got married in, and became members of. After talking to the pastor about the religion in general, we realized that's what we had been missing.
We have since moved, and attend another church, but it is also the same denomination. Our current pastor is a total opened book. He is truly a good man, and an inspiration. He has nothing to hide, and is not judged by any of us, and neither are we. Anyone of any walk of life can walk through the doors, and they will be loved and accepted. That's what I want my children exposed to as they are growing up, and that's why we go there.
I feel like people never get the experience of how GOOD it can feel to be a part of the church. They only expereince the negative side of it, as did we for so many years. They only know how the world is now, see it going in a downward spiral and want to know how any God could allow that to happen. If many of them take a leap and decide to attend, unfortunately there are too many wicked ways in the church as well. That's why a lot of people just don't bother, in my opinion.

Yes and no. I have a specific denomination, but no churches in the area comparable to exactly what I believe and am comfortable with. But I'm also happy in the church that I'm not a member of. Nobody pressures me to change, and I don't pressure them. makes for good conversation with the pastor though!

Yes, I am a member because it is a good idea to do that if you attend the church. It gives you a vote on the matters that go on in the church.

I was a member of an anglican church until last year. Then I realised that I was denying aspects of myself that the church can't accept or accomodate so I left. Now I go irreguly to a different church but I would be hesitant about making the same commitment again.

I have been a member of Hosanna Tabor Lutheran Church (christian) for about 10 years now. I mostly joined this church because I wanted my husband and I to belong to the same church together. Also, you have to be a member of the church in order to be able to help make certain decisions.

Good question. I never did ask if they took my name off the membership list when I walked out in 1984 so perhaps I am I don't know. However, I do not consider myself a member of any church as I am an Agnostic.

I am a member at a Pentecostal church. (Christian Protestant)
I am a member because I believe that it's important to be in a community. I need people and people need me. Together we support each other on our journey of knowing God.

No. I do go to church with my bff though. I'm officially a "member", but I like being able to feel closer to God.
