I think that in addition TO the border fence, employer enforcement, action by local cities/counties/municipalities, and states, that there needs to be a formal written understanding with Mexico that THEY will start having to pay the costs directly for deportation expenses incurred by their citizens when they're found in the United States. Good luck getting them to sign that, but there's other ways to get the job done, I believe the United States still provides Mexico with some sort of foreign aid money, well, you just start extracting a fair fee, say, 75k/instance, from that. That just put the ICE's deportation budget at whatever it is we WERE giving Mexico...it's a thought...they'll cry a river, but what price, exactly, ensuring that their pro-illegal stance stops causing problems in american communities? Somewhere, somehow, the disincentive to emigrate illegally needs to be made strong enough that the practice is effectively stopped. I think by now, all 50 states are aware that there's a Problem, it's up to them to put their heads together and devise an effective, lawful, humane method of stopping the illegal influx. It's either that, or all 50 states just start holding free spanish classes.
Why pick on Mexico? Because the lion's share of illegal immigration comes FROM Mexico, no 2 ways about it. Yes, there are others, but they're definitely a minority by comparison.
I hope that this administration, what's left of this Congress, as well as the next one, take this issue and make it a centerpiece worthy of positive action. Where there's a will, there's a way, where there's no will, there's no way...
The border fence bill STILL hasn't been signed into law, that I've read, yet, I think Congress has decided to sit on it and kind of parade it around and try and get mileage out of it or whatever...
but, luckily, some states have decided among themselves to move forward with concepts and measures to deter illegal immigration, hopefully the next Congress will contain progress-oriented individuals who've taken a tighter line toward voter interaction and accountability and don't walk around all day with their head in the...clouds.
There's 50 states, 48 contiguous, 2 outlying states, plus territories, the 'border' is the line that goes around em, and stuff,
that's kind of getting 6th grade with concepts, there, but if you lay it out really basic, and then tell your representatives that this is what you'd like to see happen, and other voters make their opinions heard in similar fashion, maybe effective immigration enforcement just might happen, after all...my feeling is, the majority want to see progress on reducing/reversing illegal immigration. Maybe I'm just stoned, or stupid or something, but that's my perception, for what it's worth.
For anything to work, all the 50 states have to speak more or less in unison on the issue, and that means businesses and employers and civic leaders, too...that way, Mexico and the other countries that have been profiting all these years off 'stealth' immigration will be served notice that the practice is no longer welcome in the United States. LEGAL immigration, and lawful conduct of business, or 'no sale'...

The immigration bill just soared through the senate so hopefully "0" if they keep there word but you know politician backstabbers. They are probably just trying to get a vote like every election term. The only politician I have seen to bring this issue up not during election time is Bush who started the whole reform but it was adjusted in congress to supposedly fit the american people's interest. At least he had the courage to bring it up and not worry about losing votes but of course what is he going to get elected for again?

NO, their too busy confiscating prescription drugs coming in from Canada that Americans are buying cheaper over there than here in the U.S.A.
Maybe Homeland Security should put more efforts into the illegals coming across the borders instead of the much needed medications coming in from Canada that the Americans are buying CHEAPER IN CANADA.

Homeland Security was created to try t weed out all of the criminals from the poor smucks who want to take American dollars south of the border.
Somehow the American government still will not recognize how illegal aliens are already breaking the law.
They are all criminals.

Homeland Security is just another big, black hole to pour our tax dollars into.... Had our government (both Democrats & Republican) been truly concerned about the welfare of Americans our borders would have been sealed within hours of the attacks on the WTC. Since both parties have political agenda's which include amnesty for illegal immigrants, I have to believe it was a conscience decision not to seal our borders!
No Amnesty (by any name)
Attrition thru strict local, state & federal enforcement
Repeal the 14th Amendment
Representation for middle-class Americans

Its an oxy moron.what security of whose homeland ?
I don't feel any safer,do you ?
I don't feel secure here in my country.
The 650 from the country's that hate the US is 650 too many. Its a farce a sham set up to BS the US into a false sense of security. Its too bad we don't have a US people security to protect us from the Homeland Security.
You know my being of German ancestry ,the term Homeland reminds me of Hitlers terms in Nazi Germany.I just cant seem to separate the two in my mind.Crazy huh?
Each took away personal freedoms in the context of keeping the nation free from outsiders.Being alert is a great thing, but the only people losing their freedom is the lawful legal US citizen.

Homeland Security!!!!! I think it is a made up organization that George Bush puts his cronies in. It does nothing for this country then give a few friends of the president nice big fat paychecks for doing nothing. In turn it gives the American People false hopes the our government is really doing something.

The borders are full of holes. My friend was barred from entering the USA when he landed at an American airport (no reason given) and sent back to his own country. Within a week he had successfully entered with no checks by another route and could go where he liked. It's so simple but I'm not going to tell you how.

Yes i agree they're not doing their jobs,
But i know there will be people who are all for having illegals here & all for " the we're all equal" Speach, Who will so hypocritically sit here and say that homeland isn't doing enough, When infact they support them being here.
There needs to be more done, there honestly needs to be a wall, What will happen when the next terroist attack ( i hope not) happens? & it's due to someone crossing the border to get here, i gaurantee you, Something major will be done..
It's called " too little , too late "
