Good point.

I've always kinda wondered the same thing myself.

Isn't basing a war on Jesus kinda like taking the Lord's name in vain, since he was completely agaist war of any kind?

Just wondering...

I'm a Buddist, by the way, but my family was raised Christian, so I have brought this question up many times before & after I converted.

Most of the ills of this world are blamed on God. But, in reality, most are brought about by human greed. I find it repugnant when people go killing each other for God. God does not want us to go around murdering each other. Satan, however, is very pleased with the situation because it drives a wedge between human kind and God. Satan believes He is as great as God is.
Isaiah 14:12-15
12 How you have fallen from heaven,
O morning star, son of the dawn!
You have been cast down to the earth,
you who once laid low the nations!

13 You said in your heart,
"I will ascend to heaven;
I will raise my throne
above the stars of God;
I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly,
on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain. [a]

14 I will ascend above the tops of the clouds;
I will make myself like the Most High."

When he was cast down, he was a little miffed. Now he loves to cause conflict, etc.

why would anyone want to fight for the bad guy? Everyone wants to think the good guy in on their side.

WHO is supposed to be benevolent? Wars are never benevolent, and the winner is rarely the good guy.

In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.

The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of Gods plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.

Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.

Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.

Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It’s meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.

You are halway there. Wars are fought in God's name but are not necessarily blessed by God. God did not say for us to war with eadh other. So satan is winning by making people believe God is the reason when in reality it is mammon that starts most wars. Satan has his hands in it. If you look deeply enough you can see it in the loss of life, famine, pestilence, avarice, and inhumanity.

Because he is the instigator of all wars. Then move his people to blame it on God. Sneaky, eh?

Also according to the Bible he is the god of this world and misleading the entire earth. ( 1Corin 4:4; Revelations 12:9)

Contrary to what I was taught as a child, the Crusades were not Christian wars, they were wars to allow trade with the East from the West in Euro/Asia. The war was to protect a trade route and not a war of Religion.

As far as Islam and a few others, they teach malice. If you are not like them, you should be put to death.

Bad things because of satan, he's trying all the time to make bad things happen. God will be the victor in the end, it says that in the Bible.

Because no one would support a war if they said "In satan's name we are going to fight!" Yet in reality, Satan is really behind most of the motives to fight and kill each other. Its like sugarcoating our motives.
