Is Islam a peaceful religion? And I mean in practise, history and with evidence, not just theory alone. Sure, anyone can preach something that sounds good, but what Islam is is really what its followers do. So in what way is Islam peaceful or not?

Have you ever seen a Christian, a Buddhist, or a Jew blowing himself/herself up in order to commit mass murder?
It only happens with Muslims.
Perhaps in theory Islam is not violent, but in practice, it sure is!

You could take ANY religion and find some parts of the scriptures that could be used to support violence. For that matter, you can find contradictions too. This is equally true of my own religion of Judaism as anywhere else. What matters is the overall way in which the religion is understood by the majority of its followers and how it is worked with, how those contradictions are managed. I don't deny that Islam seems to have more than its fair share, currently, of people who believe violence to be an appropriate response to what they perceive as failures in society, but it still isn't a majority view. Mainstream Islam is strongly about peace and tolerance. Don't forget the violence meted out by Christians (not only historically in the Crusades and the Inquisition, but in more recent contexts), Hindus (against Muslims in India), even Buddhists. All these are quite explicitly peaceful religions (well, I don't know enough about Hinduism but I do know that Gandhi was a Hindu and his approach of ahimsa was a key thread in Hinduism) and yet they can produce violent groups. Picking on Islam isn't hugely helpful, as it tends to alienate the peaceful and thoughtful Muslims.

it is written in the Quaran
"the true religion with Allah is Islam" or peace
there are no two ways about this according to the Quaran
you either live in Islam, in peace, or you are deluded

if you look at modern Islam
most Islamic people live in peace with their neighbours
it is a very small and very misguided fraction that is populised by the media that do not follow the teachings of Islam
I would challange you for example to find one instance of Islamic violence in Australia
where yes there is a large Islamic community
I have never yet heard of even one
not even a fist fight
and I am sure the media would jump on it

If you look at christianity on the other hand-
it has destroyed races, cultures, ecosystems,
commited genocides
sparked countless wars
been the excuse for tourturing, burning and drowning millions

no religion is one of hate, war and ignorance
Islam is often mis-interpreted by its followers
as Christianity and indeed all religions are

In practice and history-(where persecution has not been brought against Islamic communities) Islam has always been one of the most peaceful and religiously tolerant religions in the world.
Indeed the Koran forbids the followers of Islam to try and convert anyone, it is against the religion, you may provide information if they ask, but may not try and convert them.

Yes, Islam is a peaceful religion. It is just the media and some people that just want to show that it is an evil religion. Even some of the members here try to promote it as a bad religion.
In conclusion, Islam is a very peaceful religion, just like the rest of the religions around the world.

Yes it is a peaceful religion.

Believe it or not, many, many Muslims are the worst example of this religion. They give a really bad impression by just doing the opposite to what the Quran and sunna (Prophet's teachings) say. True, scores of Muslims are good people, however the "bad people" get more attention by news and media.

In a nutshell, don't judge ANY religion by it's followers. Always go back to the source. And in this case, go back to the Quran for evidence and ask for a preacher's help in order not to misinterpret any verse.

Sorry to tell you that Islam is not what followers do, most Muslims come from a third world country, half of them not educated enough, I see here good Muslims, but the majority is away form what suppose to be, if you are interested in Islam, start to read and don't look at the followers.

Some people hijack Islam and its wisdom to use it for their purposes which is to do evil, anyone who studies Islam and have studied Islam will know its a peacful religion, some people misread and interpert Islam, which is natrual since there will always be humans who get confused and make up their own rules and mind of world and religion.

It is much more peaceful than Christianity. But, someone who disagrees with this will never be convinced otherwise. They look at the world situation of today, and do not realize these terrorists they see and read of, are poor, uneducated people, who are being conned into believing they are going to have a better life. Those who want power are using them as scapegoats to do their ''dirty work''.

Really, Christians go after the same type of people---saying if they follow Christianity their lives will be better. Same concept---different reasons. The people are still being conned.

Out of ignorance, many misunderstand the concept oj "jihad" and use just to spread hatred of muslims.Islam doesn't call for war, except when people are oppressed, the Qur’an reads, "But if the enemy incline towards peace, do thou (also) incline towards peace, and trust in God: for He is the One that Heareth and knoweth (all things)."(8:61)

As for how to spread the message of Islam:
Islam calls upon us to " Invite (all) to the way of the Lord with wisdom and beautiful preaching: and argue with them in ways that are best and most gracious: for the Lord knoweth best who have strayed from his path, and who receive guidance."(16:125)

morever, in Islam killing an innocent soul is like killing the whole of mankind. God also says in the Glorious Qur’an: “...if any one slew a person - unless it be for murder or for spreading mischief in the land - it would be as if he slew the whole people: and if any one saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of the whole people”. (5: 32)

if u read the holy qur'an or hadith u will see many orders and command that Allah and his prophet ask us to spread the peace and love .
don't believe what the they said about Islam in the media they just flip the facts and makes us as we lived in the dark age and killing every one. .
