The United States Government issues 55,000 Green Cards every year through the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program, commonly known as the Green Card Lottery. Applicants are selected randomly by a computer-generated drawing. Registration for the DV-2008 (2006 Green Card Lottery) is open until December 3rd, 2006.
There are 2 ways to submit your application:

and submit your own application.

Use the site J2 recommends, www.dvlottery.state.gov. Do NOT go through any .org, .com or .net site - they are not the official site and many of them are scams.

I issue these visas every day, and have yet to see a winner who applied through any of the other web sites.

At this point, I'm almost in favor of pulling the plug on the whole green card bit...we've been sold out enough, I think...why not just have a 10-year moratorium on ALL immigration until the illegal immigration problem has been effectively taken care of...

even if you hit the lottery you will pay fees plural in the process
