I have never really thought about it but I would guess spices or burnt chips that have been recycled and put into the "good" chips. Nice job! Now I'm going to have to go out and get a bag of Doritos or Frito's and examine them. Want anything while I'm out?

No Idea, but they sure taste good. Maybe they are discolored from frying or something from the processing equipment. I dont think I would eat a frito without them.
