Here who thinks the parents today are the ones damaging the morals of their children by not being the parents they should be? I have heard many people here say that Bush has flushed our children down the toilet basically and totally demolished their morals. Is it just me who thinks you have to be the one to instill morals in your children and make sure you denounce those things around you that do not agree with the standards you have set for them? And why do we keep holding up the fact that Bush claims to be a god fearing man? If you do not believe he is then isn't it up to you to teach your children what a God Fearing person should do and say? Shouldn't we be leading by example instead of laying blame at someone elses doorstep?

Oracle, I did not say I supported Bush. All I said was it is unfair to lay the blame squarely on his shoulders. I think he has done enough damage on his own but as parents we should be able to compensate.

But then it means we'd have to discipline kids and mean it.

It means grounding for 30 days. No cell phones, no Xboxes, no TV except for Discovery, History and Science channels.

No gripping if we do that.

And we might even bring back capital punishment: The belt!

Everything went down the tubes as a result of the late 1960's movement.

Too much liberalization too fast, plus an unpopular war.

It's got nothing really to do with Nixon, Johnson, Ford, either Bush, Carter or Clinton.

It is not Bush, all this about morals been flush down the toilet started in 1960 when the democrat President John F. Kennedy separated Church and State. In 1960 the only problems with Kids were chewing gum and talking in class, were as now is murder, shooting, drugs and rape is the norm in school. How many kids bring guns to the war zone we called public school, if talk about sin and lack of morals we should look back to the previous President (Bill Clinton) a man of sin, like it says in revelation a man well like despite his obvious sins. Now we have to danger to have him back and his wife maybe for another 8 years this nation can not afford that, that's why other nations have no respect for America even that we are the only superpower. George Bush is not the promised Messiah. Very but very important
WE NEED GOD IN AMERICA AGAIN....

Yes, parents do have to teach their children however, our children are a part of society too. They cannot always be under our watchful guard. Bush plays a huge divisive role - especially in smaller towns where you are either educated, or you are not.

I can't speak for all small towns but I can tell you that in this town, those who follow the born again Christain mind set are a frightening group of people. My son comes home from (public) school with the most outrageous stories of things that people (adults) have said to him.

On Wednesdays, they stop school - ON PUBLIC MONEY- to send the children out for bible study- yet they don't "have time" to teach them social studies or science. This kind of crap is directly related to the Bush administration.

It is not just about morals. True, those should come from home. When you hear so many people ripping on Bush, you must realize that it goes deeper than just morals and values. Those issues are just the tip of iceberg.

And yes, we should all lead by example. However, that goes for our president too. He is not impervious to judgement. I certainly DO NOT wish for my children to ever see that man as any kind of role model. He is a living nightmare.

It does start at home but society also does help to shape our kids. Like it or not, it's the truth. A parents job at this point is to help keep our kids heads above water, keep them safe, try to teach them right from wrong and hope to God that they can simply survive.

Right now, our society is sick at it's deepest core and the Bush administration isn't helping. Nor do they care to.

Wait, I didnt see your supportive commentary for Bush the first time around...

Sorry- not interested in having political rat poison shoved down my throat.

I'm sure that your mortgage occupation with a dash of Republican agenda will provide you a very comfortable home, far away from the problems that poverish unrest yield.

Why put words in your mouth though, I'll conclude this with your own words:

"I have heard many people here say that Bush has flushed our children down the toilet basically and totally demolished their morals"

not to be confused with the 50% of Americans
working desperately to split <2% of the total wealth in this country

also disregard the 2000+ casualties in our highly effective:
'war against underdeveloped countries with natural resources'

a small price to pay for the recent politically aspired drop in intentionally inflated gasoline prices - but hey, what's bush got to do with Big Oil? Maybe Exxon knows, they seem to be doing alright.

This is true. And it is especially true now when there are so many pressures upon young people to turn to sexual immorality, drug abuse and other forms of delinquency. That is why teaching your children is one of the most important activities you parents will ever perform in life......The Bible shows that the time to begin working on this is when the children are very young, even from infancy. (2 Tim. 3:14, 15) Then efforts need to be continued day in and day out, year after year, from infancy right up through the teen-age years. There can be no letup in the program of teaching. The parents fail to heed closely GOD’S instructions on rearing children. Long ago Jehovah God gave his people Israel counsel on how to rear their children. And happily this guidance has been preserved in his word the Bible so that parents today can benefit from it.

I would not look to president Bush for tips on rearing children, for one how can you be God fearing and at the same time be a politician who involves himself in war, sedning thousands of americans who in the course war will kill. Anyone who is a christian would not get involved in these things.....jesus said "those who live by the sword shall die by the sword, God also said tho shal not kill, and how can you love your neighbour if you kill him? For the best advice for child rearing stick to bible principles and no man WHY? READ JEREMIAH 10:23

President Bush is a Christian, this is the reason that he is hated by some unchristian people.

True Christians realize that the church is for sinners, not the self righteous. Some unchristian people are truly the most self righteous people known.

True Christian know that Jesus Christ is the role model alone for our lives and those of our children. President Bush believes this as well. No one is perfect even the self righteous.

You are correct, that all people, parents, and children, should live and teach by example. No one however is sinless, and we can not judge the hearts of others, only their actions.

What you say is true. Parents need to pay attention to what their children are doing and not letting them listen to the kind of music that is played today, because it ain't nothing but trash. They stick their children in front of the TV and let them play with the playstation, X-box, or whatever so they don't have to deal with them. They give them cellphones that they don't need. I've seen 10 year olds with cellphones, what does 10 year old need with a cellphone. That's a parent not wanting to deal with he's kid. Nobody spanks their child anymore, I was spanked as a child and I never got one I didn't deserve. Parents want to count to 5 now before they'll do anything and most of the time if they do get to 5 they ain't going to do anything anyway, their to lazy to do anything to their kids and the kids know it.

You are right in saying that parents are responsible for instilling morals and character in their children. Reverence God, and don't look to man for an example. We all make mistakes. Everyone will disappoint you except God. Trust Him.

well i do think that parents are responsible to a degree for installing morals and principles or lack of them in their children, but the ways of the world play more part. we as parents and do our best, but we can not stop our children from association that is not good for them. our children learn more from the examples we set as parents then what we actually say and discuss with them. Peer pressure and the need to be acceptable takes it toll upon our children in ways that you can not see or plan for. as parents we should try to do all we can to instill the correct morals, principles and standards in them. but all children will test and push those standards to the max if they can. at those times its our responsibility to guide them back to the right path. the bible shows many example of children who have wavered from the correct path and returned. that is what we as parents when one goes wild will happen and in most cases they do turn out to be good adults.

i believe the way you live your live & the principals you teach your childern are the most important things in a childs life. it`s their foundation. i agree totally with you, but, i also feel that childern are exposed to a LOT of trash that they don`t need to be.t.v. the computer.we parents do have control, if we used it, maybe they would realize that it is more profitible to have decent stuff on , bush doesn`t live with us- so why should i blame him? i do my best to live a moral life & not let in all the smut out there. in looking at other answers, it doesn`t seem to me that people are using alternatives for making their kids happy,i have a very happy 8yr old-why, she`s spoiled rotten with lots of love ,attention,we get out a lot as a family & friends & DO stuff. it is a lot easier sitting at home glued to the t.v.teach kids how to have good clean fun! when, you live a life like this, you don`t desire the smut of the world.
