The cat is vocalizing becuase she is missing and calling for her former companions. I suggest that your son plays with her an hour or so before bed time - to tire her out. Then feed her a bit so she will't feel even sleepier. Then put her in a cat kennel (carrier - not the cardbosrd box people use to take their cats to the vet - but a proper cat carrier made of plastic with room for the cat to sit up and turn around). Put the cat in the keenel inside the laundry or bathroom, turn off light and close the door. The cat will meow for a few minutes but will eventually settle down to sleep. Just 2 or 3 nights of this. Don't forget to let the cat out first thing in the morning so she can go potty and eat breakfast.

Good luck

Your son's feline is most probably in heat.I am sure the person from whom you got the cat must have assured you that it is a docile creature. He may not be far worng much less dishonest. WthI three cats around some o whom at least must have been males the cat was assured of a companion and did not give any sign of unress. No that she is alone she is crying for one.Female cats that are not spayed will eventually come into heat (technically called oestrus), and the signs are unambiguous, once you know what to look for. Here are some behavioral symptoms to watch for if you suspect your diva is in heat.

Has the cat become unusually affectionate e.g. rubbing her hind quarters against furniture and/or her favorite human(your child)

You have alredy reported about its loud vocalization. The calling
may go on for several days, unless she mates.

Does she assume a mating position: head down, forelegs bent, rear quarters raised to expose the perineum ( this raised posture is called lordosis), with the tail raised and held to the side of the body. Her rear legs will tread rhythmically, as if walking in place.
She may also spray vertical surfaces with a strongly scented fluid by backing up to the surface and raising her tail high. The tail may quiver, and she may perfom the rhythmic treading described above..

If you are unable to 'show'hera mate, she will go into oestrus as often as every two to three weeks, for several months each year, until she either mates or is spayed.

Unless she is a qualified pedigreed breeder, your female cat should be spayed. It will not only cease the uncomfortable heat cycles, but prevent certain serious medical problems.
Your veterinarian may be able to give your female cat hormones to stop the oestrus, if spaying is not immediately possible.
Female cats as young as four months can go into oestrus and yours is three years old.

Haha, I'm glad I'm not going through this again. =b I just recently went through this with a Basset Hound puppy I got last month. And let me tell you...he was LOUD. Well the poor kitten probably misses his mum. You saif you got him at a dump? How old is the kitten? The people since they are kinda dump-ish people probably let him go too soon. He should be over 8 weeks. Well many people will say 'Oh it's just a phase' and you know what they're probably right. It ten to one is a phase. Give him a few more days and see if he keeps it up. If this goes on for more than a week maybe something is wrong. after another week ask the vet. We once had a kitten and he whined too much so we took him to the vet and you know what he had a bladder problem and it was very uncomfortable. His way of letting us know was whining. Well I hope I helped because I know what its like to not get any sleep because of a pet. Well like I said give him another week. He probably just misses his mum. Well, best of luck! Have fun with your kitten. And oh, try to get some sleep even if it means wearing earplugs. ;)

My cat Ruby does this...our 4 housemates, myself and bf could not sleep. She had been doing this for 2 weeks now.

I have researched this and they say to ignore your cat, so not shush or discipline your cat, do not place him/her in another room alone because that is a form of attention. Granted it is hard to ignore your cat when he/she is meowing at 3am, it also says to play with your cat about an hour before bedtime to more or less tire her/him out, sometimes even catnip toys help...but I hope the following below will help you.

Cats born with oriental background...i.e. Simese(sp) and cats with slender bodies and a more pointed narrow face tend to be very chatty.

We went to PetSmart and asked an employee their advice, they recommened a product called PetEase ($3.99) it looks like a treat, Ruby wont eat it plain so i break them in half and put it in her food.

It works she calm and quite and we all sleep better at night.

Some other things to try:
Calm Down ($9.99) Content-UM drops ($14.99)
or NaturVet Quite Moments ($11.99)

All these products are found at PetSmart or at Petsmart.com

Please let us know how things went.

She is either really missing her friends or, if she has not been fixed, she is in heat. Female cats in heat will howl all night and all day. If she is acting like she is in pain you may contact a vet. Can you adopt the other three cats?

Try getting her a companion or maybe a stuff animal that she can snuggle with. She is accustomed to sleeping and playing with them.
