I'm buying a 2000 Chevy Malibu ls, it has 150,000 miles on it, but a 1 year full engine/tranny warranty. Everyone is telling me to blow up the engine by beating the car, since the warranty would replace the engine. Is this a good idea, or just friendly rumors?

A good mechanic would quickly determine that the reason for the engine failure was abuse or neglect. That would void the warranty.

If a dealer offered such a warranty on a vehicle with that many miles on it, it would tend to indicate that the dealer had first-hand knowledge of how the vehicle was maintained and was confident that it would hold up during the warranty period with proper care. With proper care and regular maintenance modern engines can easily give good service almost indefinitely.

It's not "friendly rumor", it's IDIOTIC advice.

No they can tell if it was your fault.I would not buy it with those miles, buy a Japanese American car. I learned my lesson with U.S. made, chinese parts, assembled in mexico crap.

It's running fine? I'd leave it alone.
