corruption is defined as "using public office 4 private profit."
the black money thus earned is not taxed becuase the government is unaware of it
why r people corrupt? well, to have a lavish life. the tax to be paid is quite high. so to have a better livelihood. if a person earns Rs. 2,50,000 per year then he will have just Rs 50000 to spend on clothes ,holiday etc.
also , if one person is not corrupt andpays tax properly it is of no use as other people would somehow use it 4 their gain.
today, each &every person is corrupt.
india has been rated 69 on the list of most corrupt countries.

Power corupts the only way to limit corruption is to limit the power of government. One way to limit the power of government is to limit the amount of money it has to "play" with.

When in college I lived in a rooming house full of Indian and Pakistani students. So I pay some attention to them. I've noticed that 20 years ago, India exported PHd's, Engineers, Doctors, and Computer people. Now I buy stainless materials and equipment. I see more and more stainless steel components coming from India and over the last 5 yrs the quality of the components and materials has improved steadily.

When you call a computer or software company for 24 hr Tech support an Indian usually takes the call. They are knowlegeable, speak english that is at least gramatically more correct than my own, and also pleasant to deal with.

I don't know what's going on over there but I'd bet things have significantly improved over the last 20 years and are improving still at a good pace. I've heard its because the government is moving away from socialism. If they continue on that path the Indian people will prosper.

Do not go by the propaganda tactics of Finance minister. If you ask the RTI what is the source of income of Sonia Gandhi they will say nothing. You may even get arrested and put behind the bars for 12years even without filing a charge sheet against you.

The mentality of defiance against the government, is due to British Raj. All their rules are being dismantled, slowly. 400 years legacy cannot be wished away in 50 years. Slowly but steadily things are changing. All 'License Raj' is slowly withdrawn and all rules are being made easier and understandable to limit corruption.
Corruption is everywhere, but, in India it is more because of too many curbs, which are being removed.
