If you wish to be thought of as a peaceful nation, then why don't the ones that are peaceful step up and take a more active role in getting rid of the people of your own religion that commit those unspeakable atrocities against other muslims as well as the world? Shouldn't you be taking a more active role if you really want America out of it?

Not much can be done - why?
Because they have the arms, they have the media attention and they have your attention. The moderats do not have any of the above. Did you know the since 2002, more than 800 peaceful demonstrations tookplace in the Middle east to condemn attacks? Did you even see one of these on CNN?
London has 3 demonstrations with more than 100,000 muslim participants, did u ever get to see it on your tv?
Highly doubtful, why? because media is selective and also because some powerful people out there do not want u to know these facts or at least won't give them much weight.
The quesiton should be what can moderates do? books, articles, demonstrations, i have seen them all, but would they make a difference? I honestly do not think so.
Remember, Islam has been around for a very long time, we are talking 1500 years. When did we start relation terrorism to Islam? a few years ago. We all need to examine the roots of the problem before condeming billions of people for the acts of a few.
There are people out there that are in rage because of the way they have been treated. Landless peasents whos parents, children and loves ones have died because of Israeli killings and unlawful occupation of their lands.
You know what - i can safely bet all my money that if the Palestinian - Israeli conflict is solved, the world will be a much better place. That would be the biggest blow to terrorism, since the west will no longer be blamed for assisting the Israelis.

OH but they are..! You know fighting terrorism means that you have to fight the core of the faith of those people. Not being a terrorist and extremist and trying to get close to them is also very difficult. The only place i can think of that it is safe for clerks to argue, cos it is a long argument, is when they are in prison for example.
Clerks and scholars have been visiting the prisons where extremists and known terrorists are (not those accused of being one and they are not). Extremists and terrorists have a very clear understanding about the reasons and proofs they go with to act upon..But ! What the clerks know and all reasonable and intelligent muslims know (those "peacful" ones) is that their reasoning is errored and they have forgotten most of the context, meaning and interpretation of verses that make the other muslims NOT GO FOR TERRORISM. That's what scholars work on, those guys who are terrorists have most often a VERY strong faith and really think they are doing the right thing for Allah's sake u know, and that's is what is scary.
Those who visit them attempt to put them back on the right track by arguing with them about the proofs they have for doing such crazy things..so they will open their hearts and hopefully see the real message and truth of the Qur'an and the Sunnah cos u cannot have one and not the other, the Sunnah are the sayings of the prophet Mohammed (pbuh) and are essential explanation of the conditions for Jihad for example, according to context and time in history when he was alive.
We should all be fighting it, don´t think muslims aren´t cos of course it affects them the most, it's just that more and more are getting angry at many things u know, wars and politics, greed of power, it makes you do the very bad things. When u are a palestinian or an iraqi, seen your family members being shot in front of you, u have no money, no job, no hope really, what would you do? i mean, if it was done to me on my very cute and safe street i would go crazy and be in such a trauma i don´t know if i could stand up...
Amongst all groups there are always people with bad intention, no knowledge of their own religion and for power they will go get the vulnerable ones, speak to them in a very convincing manner and there u go, u got a bunch of ignorant people that want to fight anybody for the sake of God...
We all want world peace..!

By the same token if that is the attitude you wish to employ. Then why dont Christians stand up and condemn every evil leader or person who says he is Christian and commits atrocities?
Also members of other religous groups Tamils, Hindus, Jews (heck they even are cluster bombed Lebonan and civilian areas at that). Why do you not ask each of them to stand up and apologise?
Why must normal peacful muslims feel a need to stand up and condemn someone who is clearly wrong just because they are muslim also?
It is the blinkered attitude of the US rather in painting all muslims with the same brush that is causing the problem.

woh, how about you step off your high horse and look around you?
I've had enough of the insensitive statements that come from Non Muslims about how we don't do enough to stop terrorism. We live our lives believing terrorism is bad. We have made books and spread the truth to the Muslims in the UK (and elsewhere). We invite non Muslims to our mosques to hear how we stand up and fight against terrorism.
HOWEVER, the MEDIA will never show you this. They focus too much on the negatives and not enough on us people who are trying to make a difference.
And of course, only the ignorant people want to believe that we don't do enough and stand up. What do you want us to do? We do all that we can do, but in the end, the media dominates us and chooses to show what they do to the rest of the world. In most cases they are biased against us Muslims.
So quit complaining about what we "don't do". You don't know what it's like trying to fight terrorism.

I'm not Muslim, but I take some issue with part of what you say. Why should America be "out of it" -- in a peaceful world EVERYONE should be "involved with it" to a degree, at least. Otherwise you are advocating segregation and also opening a policy of why should America let Muslims be "involved with it" -- in short Muslims should be "out of it" as far as OUR government is concerned. In other words Muslims should not run and should NEVER run candidates for office in the US or any state!
Nor should Muslims run ANY candidates in Britian, France, Spain, Denmark or Sweden!
They should stay "out of it" if YOU or THEY advocate the US or France or Brtian or Spain stay out of it!
It's biased and prejudiced to say there should be "totally Muslim or Islamic RUN countries" -- with no other views, such as Atheist, Jew, Catholic, Buddist, Communist, Socialist, yet ALL other countries of the world have to face Muslim or Islamic BLOCKS in their own GOVERNMENTS.
That seems one sided and unfair to the REST of the world.
That gives them an exclusive Country Club where ONLY MUSLIMS can go, ALL OTHER are "out of it"

If what YOU and THEY (and THEY haven't spoken yet) say is true, then you made my mind up and instead of advocating a RELIGIOULY FREE United States, I am NOW for declaring the U.S. a Christian Nation, to follow Christian rules from the Christian Bible.
To be part of the US Government ALL people MUST be Christians. All LAWS MUST be based on CHRISTIAN BELIEFS.
That is a Christian Nation and NO nation in the world totally meets that standard.
In Utah you basically have to be Mormon to get anywhere. They basically won't vote for you unless you are Mormon.
But that's only ONE state out of 50.
In a U.S. Christian ONLY Country Club, we'd have a National Divorce law, removing states rights and the ONLY way to get a divorce would be to PROVE adultery on your spouses part. That is the ONLY way Jesus said you can divorce.

Because the peaceful ones would be killed by the violent ones. Look at Iraq. The Iraqi police arent the ones doing the killing. They're the ones trying to keep the peace, and theyre the ones being killed. Iraqis dont want freedom, they want a dictator.

first, why don't you stop occupying our countries?
don't you know that America and Europeans are occupying many muslim countries?
Italy occupied Libya and many other countries.
France occupied Algeria and many others.
America is occupying Iraq& Afghanstan.
(Spain, Belgium, Potugal, England).
As you see, all these countries are christian countries
