I will modify the previous poster.

SD cards are availble in up to 2gb (we have in stock) and XD redily available in 1gb.

Olympus/Fuji Co-designed XD for their camera (faster write speed currently and more stable then CF cards

Nikon/Pentax/Canon/Casio/etc attached themselves to the growing SD market (the now most popular chip)

other then that its just a storage device.

XD and SD are each specifications for "reminiscence playing cards". SD is essentially the most popular of the cardboard varieties this present day, XD used to be generally utilized by cannon and olympus virtual camers. Other reminiscence card varieties you could have come throughout comprise smartmedia (virtually out of date), compactflash (bodily bulkier than many of the others however to be had in bigger capacities and on the whole utilized in prime finish virtual SLR cameras), and reminiscence stick (this is available in a number of versions and is generally utilized by sony stuff). Most readers developed into computer PCs will learn/write just about any reminiscence card kind, however such a lot different instruments can most effective manage one kind (or commonly a small set of similar varieties).

You just use the one that your camera takes. I don't think you will notice any difference. I just purchased a 1 Gig sd card, it holds 560 photos on a 4 meg camera.I have xd in two other camers and a compact flash in another, I don't see any difference in what they produce.

The difference is SD cards have technology built-in to allow copyright protection.
SD cards are currently available in sizes up to 512Mb. These cards are currently more expensive than some of the others.
The xD Picture card is the newest of all the cards, currently available in sizes of 16Mb to 512Mb, 1GB and cards as large as 8Gb could be created in the future.
The type of card you use depends on the manufacture of the camera you are using. I think its just another way of companies making money, having to have their own type of memory cards.
