My best friend is joining the Catholic faith. I am very pleased that she has accepted Christ and has found somewhere to worship where she is confortable. I DO NOT have any problems with her becoming a Catholic and am supportive of her decision. She asked me about the Saints and how she could find the names of them and what they stood for. I knew about St. Francis of Asisi(spelling?) and what he does. Can anyone share with me some of the others?

Earthangel, feel free to hush please. If she ever decides that she wants to be an atheist you will be the first one I look up. You however, ARE NOT qualified to answer my question unless you were formally a Catholic and you can give an informational answer as opposed to your usual snide and debasing drivel.

Thanks for your concern oldguy, since she has never been interested in Christ or church before in her life, I will be happy with whatever religion she chooses. By the way, as is the usual way, she has been "ministered" to by some of the Protestant religions, specifically Southern Baptist and after the yelling in her face and their judgemental attitude shestayed away from the church. God holds us responsible for the souls we run off from him as much or not more so than the ones we lead to him, ya think!!!

Southern Apostolic, thanks for the lesson on how to be saved, already done that one. Here's one for you, learn to be less judgemental. She is reaching out to Jesus, she has repented and she has accepted him into her heart as Lord of her life so guess what she is just as saved as a Catholic as you are as an Apostolic. Have a good one.

The websites that were listed above are very good. Let me give you some books. Reading between the lines, I take it your friend is on a search for a confirmation name. I suggest, in addition, that this should be something prayed over as well.

Yes, I am a working towards Catholic. I do suppose unhealthy whilst, at Christmas and Easter, all the ones "two times a 12 months" Catholics pop out - however then I become aware of that it might be worse. It might very good be viable they do not pop out in any respect. It's handy for anyone, who attends Church each week, to visit Mass on Christmas, Easter, and Holy Days of Obligation. I quite often marvel simply how a lot more tricky it's for persons, who do not attend Mass mostly, to get out and pass to Mass a couple of time consistent with 12 months. We are not able to suppose it, considering the fact that we all know what we might be lacking. I do not suppose those "two times a 12 months" forms can thoroughly admire what it's they are lacking. If they did, they might be at Mass greater than two times a 12 months. I am proud to be Catholic, so it is the entire extra disappointing whilst I see persons taking an "oh hum: perspective closer to their vocation as lay Catholics. All we will be able to quite do approximately it's pray, and wish that they illustration we set will, at some point, encourage them to begin residing the Catholic way of life all 12 months circular.

A) A saint is by definition every human being who is in heaven.
B) Recognized (canonized) saints are numerous (about 13,000 at last count).
C) Some of the major ones are:
ALL the Apostles (except Judas Iscariot).
The four evangelists.
Paul and most of those he mentions in his epistles.
The early martyrs, like Agnes, Perpetua, Lucy, Catherine, Sebastian, Gelasius, Genesius.
The Fathers of the Church (those who codified and wrote about the Faith, like Benedict, Polycarp, Irenaeus, Gregory Nazienzen.
The Doctors of the Church (those who propounded and expounded on the Faith through the centuries, like Catherine of Siena, John of the Cross, Thomas Aquinas.
Later martyrs, like Thomas a Becket, Thomas More.
Saints who through custom have come to be identified with particular venues, like Francis of Assisi for animals, Anthony of Padua for lost items, Isadore for farmers, Mother Seton for Catholic education in the Americas, Rita of Cascia for the impossible.
Popes whose holiness throughout their lives classified them, like Gregory the Great, and most recently, Pius the 10th.
And the greatest saint of them all, Mary, the Blessed Mother of our Lord, Jesus.
Hope this helped.
Please tell your friend from me, "WELCOME HOME! Glad to have you back!".

Do you realize that accepting Christ is not a bible doctrine? Until you repent, get baptized in Jeuss' Name, and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, then none of the rest really matters.
And...
if a saint is every human being in Heaven, then why did the apostle Paul address all of his letters to saints?

She would be much better to get into a Bible believing church. The Bible says that all Christians are saints. A Saint is a holy one, that is what the word saint means, and we have been made holy by Christ, thus we are all saints. The problem with Catholics is they add a tremenduous amount to Scripture such as sainthood and it side tracks you from the the truth which is the word of God.
Romans 1:7 to all who are beloved of God in Rome, called as saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Poor thing, I feel genuinely sorry that she has left reason behind her and sold out to supernaturalistic nonsense. I hope she will eventually come to her senses, meanwhile she could try reading Richard Dawkins book "The God Delusion", it always helps to to make up your mind about something if you research the other side of a story, then it truly becomes your decision and an informed choice.
