I have had good luck by setting my browser to block pop-ups and by using Google toolbar (it has a popup blocker. Between the two I do not see very many.

IF YOU HAVE SP2 AND IT IS STILL DOING IT AND YOUR ANTIVIRUS CANT HELP AFTER YOU UPDATE IT USE MICROSOFT, WINDOWS DEFENDER OR MALICES SOFTWARE REMOVAL KIT AND IF THAT DOSE NOT WORK CALL THE GEEK SQUAD OR REFORMAT AND RELOAD.
TO REFORMAT AND RELOAD PUT THE DISKS THAT CAME WITH YOUR COMPUTER IN AND RESTART, OR IF YOU DONT HAVE ONE OF THE DISKS AND YOU HAVE JUST A WINDOWS XP DISK AND NOT A IMAGE THAT COMES WITH A STORE BOUGHT DESK TOP , THIN GET DRIVE WASHER. PUT IT INTO YOUR COMPUTER AND RESTART WASH THE DRIVE AND THIN LOAD WINDOWS. I SAY THIS BECAUSE IT IS THE ONLY WAY TO REFORMAT A DRIVE WITH XP ON IT
GOOD LUCK
O AND FIREFOX MIGHT HELP BUT I IT IS VARY UN LIKELY

You notice that your browser is also prone to every spyware/virus/malware attack out there? Download an award winning browser called "Firefox" here :
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
Never see another popup again, and never worry about browser hijacking, viruses, etc.
