Parvati is a beautiful name. As for those who say that she will be made fun of, so what? Kids are cruel, if they don't pick on her for that, they'll usually find something else to tease her about. I was named after a Mouseketeer and I've managed to become a sane adult. All the children in my family (meaning, myself and my siblings) have names outside the mainstream. I disliked it when I was younger, but, as I got older, I realized that the 5 Jennifers in my class probably wished their parents had given them another name. If it suits your little girl, then ignore what other people say about it. I waited until after my son's name was on the birth certificate before I told any friends what his name was. ;)

PARVATI - Pronounced: PAHR-vah-tee - Means "daughter of the mountain" in Sanskrit. In Hindu mythology Parvati is one of the many names of the wife of Shiva.
According to the Social Security Administration, "Parvati is not in the top 1000 female names for any year of birth in the last 15 years."
I like it, it's different. Also, it looks like the popularity of Harry Potter hasn't made it move up in popularity. My only concern is coming up with a middle name to go with this. May I recommend you try this Middle Name Generator http://www.babynamegenie.com/baby-middle-names/ From the Baby Name Genie?
Congratulations!

For a little girl? Maybe.
For a teenager or adult? No.
If you are stuck with a name that you have to spell over and over and over again, then you become tired of it. I'm tired of telling everyone that SPLATT has two "T"s.

i think giving someone a unique name is sometimes cruel...you have to think of the type of environment that they would be in and the situation first. its great if they can handle it but kids are cruel lots of times and you dont want your children picked on...it depends on how you present them to the world

Guess you are a survivor fan. I think it looks pretty on paper, but since, in English, it is pronounce "poverty", I think it is NOT a pretty name at all.
