Many men who come back from war, and none of the people I see here have ever been in one, nor do they have what I have, come back and are cut free! After that they do not give a crap! Bush cut 8 Billion from the VA Budget this year and it was flat lined for 5 years prior to that! What did you guys on here say about that! NOTHING!!!
What do you think is going to happen to men sitting in tankls with depleted uranium shells? CANCER You are going to lose another whole generation of men!
Gulf War the admin was tell the military who were ill from GWS that there was nothing wrong with them for years, until they found out there was someyhing wrong with them! How do these people support thmselves? They don't!
Agent Orange in Vietnam, how many did that kill? How long did the administration deny there was any such thing? 2 decades?
Do you have any clue what happens to a mans mind who sees his buddy blown apart and not be able to recognize them, or row after row of body bags! Or sit at base knowing you are going out the next day and that many of you, including you, are not probably coming back alive! That when you are hit it will be by a force 3 times larger than your unit as that was the only way they would take us on! Do you know what it is like to have your hand in someones belly trying to keep them from bleeding out as their aorta has been hit! Do this for a year! Look at the people who hit a mine or a trap and are cut in two? You crack! Your mind builds a wall! You aren't suppose to see humans doing this to each other! You get PTSD, which the government also denied anyone had though it was recognized in WWII as shell shock! Therer is NO CURE for PTSD!! There are Meds! Do you know what they do? Do you know how long you have to fight with the government to get a disability so they will pay for your meds and you can pay for a place to sleep?
Ii is a terrible thing to come home in from Vietnam physically, to find only hatred directed at us for a war we didn't start. Often our body came back; the rest was left in a rotten jungle !! Many know our emotional and cognitive life was left behind and there it will always remain. There is no cure for that! I guess sadly we recognize there will be another generation passing through about the same way! It is beyond my fathom that we can wash whole generations of men from 17 to 28 from death to forever broken lives! For what?
You think employers are bending over backwards to hire vets? Think again!
Until you have been in a line unit for a year, and have been in combat, and know just a little of what you are talking about, don't answer because you have no right to judge anyone, or blame a soldier for what happens to him after being in a war.
You don't have a clue. and if I showed you 100 films, you would still not have a clue! You have to be there! You have to smell the smells and hear the screams, and watch them die!
So spare me your remarks if you don't know what you are talking about and guessing!!
If you want to do something pick up the damn phone and call your Senator and Cogressman! If you want to use 3/4 of a trillion for a war, certainly you can find 10 Billion for those who were caught in it!! If you can't, then get them out because they don't deserve to be treated like that!\
Get a job!! Kiss my A__!!
These things get me a little upset! That is another thing this war is doing to vets, bringing up a lot of old stuff we thought we dealt with!
And Angfelfood, you can't excuse what happens in a war to a vets mind on him! You say it's his fault and you are supposedly in the service! Well, you don't have a clue sad to say, and in my generation, Bush was dodging the draft and many who were killed did not want to be there and did not want to die! They were DRAFTED!!! You keep your education for you need it!

Part is psychology. Returning to the US after war is almost surreal. How can the world be so violent in Iraq and people around you are just going thru the day normally? A lot of what a soldier goes thru upon return is the dynamics of war messing with their head. Normal life with its responsibilities and mundane routines just don't work anymore.
I am a veteran. But I was in service in the early 80's over in Germany when the bombing happened and what not. Even being in the service in non-wartime effects you. It is like prison life, everything is handed to you and you can always get a meal, find a room, you have social and working relationships forced on you...in the "real" world you must work for all this and if you fail...there is no one their to force you to succeed or survive. It can really freak you out!
Lastly, the federal government made a law that veteran's must be given preference for jobs including state and federal jobs. They don't make the various states enforce it. Let me give a big slap to the good ole boy network in Georgia for not giving a sh*t about this law! We need to give our returning troops all the support and help we can.

It's not a matter of fault. The fact is that most vets. at least since World War I, have historically had a hard time adjusting back to civilian life. You spend a year of your with adrenalin pumping through your body as you wait for the "next shoe to drop" and you may understand why the hard adjustment. Instead of pointing fingers, let's work for a solution and provide the health care that these people deserve. Instead of cutting VA services as the current administration is doing under Bush/Rumsfield let's give these vets the support that they need.

What do you mean whose fault is it? It is their own fault. I mean I love Soldiers. I am a Solider. But there is medical treatment available to those that need it and....even if you get a dishonoralbe discharge you can still get a job somewhere. You might have to live in a crappy neighborhood for a while, but where there is a will there is a way.
Sometimes we, vets, might think that someones owes us something, but NO...no one owes you anything. This is an all volunteer army. I signed up just like everyone else who is in...if you can't make it in the real world, hell, the miliary will take you back. There are options.
Now if you are talking about people with mental problems and physical injuries, then that is a little different, but there are still options available from the military for these folks.

This is the unfortunate result of failed American leadership. I am sad to say that it was not unexpected. Reality is that our American leadership says it stands behind our military, but looks away when its time to reward our heroes for their service to America. Of course no one enters military service for benefits or rewards...there have never been sufficient benefits or rewards to compensate the servicemember. People serve out of patriotism. Unfortunately, money talks. While our leaders will gladley lead big flag waving parades down main street when its to their benefit, they are curiously missing when the parade of mangled, unemployed, or homeless veterans come marching down the street. Take heart...at least our troops are not being spit upon in the airports this time, as I was when I returned from VietNam.

This country has a habit of dumping those who served when they are no longer needed. From WW1 to present day this goverment has been guilty of denying the military the needed help unless they are noticeabley disabled ..Ask those who served in Korea, Viet Nan, and Desert Storm and some who are already home from Bushes wars.

The old men who start and continue the wars don't care. They have to be callous to prosecute their wars, and the fact that this callousness extends to returning veterans is not surprising.
