Eversince you saw a guy, you are already very interested in him and you actually have feelings for him that time and even though you lost your feelings for him, you are still interested in getting close with him and knowing him better.
Well I'm sure that I'm innocently interested with him because I even want to help him now that he wants to court this girl and I'm not feeling anything bad about him liking that girl and the girl feeling the same for him.

Try friendly approaching him and asking him stuff about that girl, if he really is interested in you helping him, he'll be open and give you lots of details.
