How long would it really take for the Car companies to develop a car that doesn't guzzle gas so much if they really put there minds to it. I mean hell... we went to the moon in the 60's, how hard could it be to make a car that runs more smoothly and not eat gas, and all the damn maintence!? I think, in fact know that the gas companies and the car manufacturers are in league together. All about making money. Screw the public right?

OK first of all on the Moon... that was a hoax think about these things. there is no atmosphere on the moon therefore there would not be any wind... why was the american flag waving. If you record somone moving slow in slow speed then play at regular speed you can duplicate the look of walking on the moon.

Ok now for your question. As far as gas eaters. Ever heard of the three cylinder geo metro that thing has awsome gas milage, Unfortunately it had no power that is the problem that they are running into with anything fuel efficient. The hydrogen combustion engine is being worked on but has not yet been perfected. Not to mention that the oil companies nor the government would allow it to come out. For a long time at least. They make to much money off of the taxes. Just think how are they going to tax water when you can refill your tank with a funnel while it is raining?

Well, there is the Toyota Prius, it claims 60 miles per gallon, but gets around 40 and there are two engines to maintain. Why is this so difficult ? Is there anyone that has a device on the market to improve gas milage that can be installed on the cars after purchase? Most of us would be interested to hear about it, if the car manufacturers will not provide it, as you say.

Couldn't have said it any better myself. There are cars like that - they just don't want to admit that they know they could truly make a difference in our environment because it's such a big change on so many levels - like fuel from corn - it's a big change for the oil industries - thinking from all of the different automotive industries, anything that runs on gas - that make money off each other - countries' trades, alliances with / control over one and other, down to agriculture and the farmers.... Their too pussy to actually change the way things work enough to make a difference. It's kind of like they put us on this ride to "Hell on Earth" when the power to stop it, limitless knowledge, answers and solutions are there for us. We're in the wrong hands in some ways. Most of us can't do much about it but vote, with the way our society works. The people who want and can change it aren't really given the chance - and the people with the power to change it - yeah, screw 'em. What you said.

I have two cars that were made in the 80's and their gas mileage is still well above the average new car today. We have had the technology for a long time. The car companies are just not very forward-thinking (with a couple of exceptions, namely Honda and Toyota).

while they make money there not going to let that go are they, if someone came out with the ultimate cheap and clean power source whats going to happen to those big energy companies...its profits...its stocks etc. even governments would hide the truth if they accidently came across it because of the effect it would have. We have had the technology for this since the 1940's i bet its there and always has been. When our world is on the verge of destruction through pollution etc. whats the betting that it turns up then lol

You know what gets me...Detroit is now developing hydrogen cars that require this massive re-structuring of the whole system...I mean, when are they gonna get it? Toyota and Honda are so far superior to any American car company and you're right... screwing the public is all Detroit knows how to do.

You can start by modifying your own car to run on ethanol or biodiesel. There's also a modification available for diesel engines to run on straight vegetable oil. Or if you have $100k, you can buy Tesla Motors' purely electric car. In 2 years' time they hope to be selling a $45k model for the family.
