Just from the top of my head. Similarities:
They beleve in One God
Day of Judgement
Sin
The importance of good deeds
Eternal life
Paradise
Hell
The virgin birth
Mary the mother of God
Jesus was a holy man (But not that he was divine)
God created the world
Man was reated by God, body and spirit
Self-denial (eg fasting)
There is more, if I had time. However what they do not believe and even refute, exceeds the similarities and are fundamental to the Catholic/Christian faith eg
Jesus was God and came down from heaven to occupy a human body that had been prepared for him through the power of the Holy Spirit
Jesus, God the Son, existed from the beginning
The Godhead is made up of a Trinity, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit
Jesus died on the cross
Jesus rose from the dead
Jesus founded a church with Peter and his successors at its head
Jesus was equal to the Father and the Holy Spirit, although he
always put himself under the father
Again I could go on, but the big question is why Islam/ the Qur'an contains so many similarities to Christianity and Judaism, it follows many of the Jewish practices and rituals to this day. It is unlikely that the word 'Catholic' was known in Mohammed's time. They were all Jews, Christians and Orthodox, but undoubtedly Mohammed was influenced by the former two because he and his peers and ancestors lived among them and was subject to their preaching and efforts at conversion. I think (my opinion) that they learnt a lot about both religions and incorporated some of the teaching and practices which appealed to them into their religion and the Qur'an and rejected those that did not. They even wrote into the Qur'an rejections of some of the Christian fundamental beliefs.
There is a lot of reading you could do on this topic, but be selective. These days, as well as the good authors there are some who use unreasonable criticism and even insults in their comments on Islam, while others are condescending , and bend over backwards to please Muslims.

There are very rare similarities between both religions.
Islam like Judaism is a set of dogms and rules , the aim of which is to make the adepts of the religion as numerous as possible, and to establish a political empire based on the control of other peoples.
Christianity (as interpreted by the Church), and not as generated from the Gospel, has the same target : conquer the world by making its adepts as numerous as possible.
Otherwise, believing in One God ( nobody can tell if he is the same in both religions...) is not a similarity, but a convenience.
Otherwise on the rest of the beliefs, similarities are basically null.
Those 3 monotheists religions are 3 different political empires fighting for the control of the world.
Other religions around the world are obviously non-violent, and their peoples live basically in peace.

If you click here on the link you can download for free Empire Earth III: http://bit.ly/1oh7B5S
Empire Earth III is an excellent RTS game where you can experience becoming the ruler of Earth empires. The gameplay of Empire Earth III unfolds in a lavishly well-detailed Earth, and it has 60 maps all in all and it represents a real area on the globe, or you can randomly create a generated globe to control.
It's amazing.

most religions share behavioural guidelines.......the problem stems from their contention that only they have the deity or true prophets and claim that only the worship of their notion of the true god is the path to salvation....it is a conflict that will never end and fuels the radical elements that wreak havoc among us...it is indeed truly ironic that lasting peace will only come when religions invalidate what they consider the fountations of their faith

I think the biggest similarity is the dogmatic way their followers are dictated to and not given free choice.
