12 or 13 is fine.
As one who has been involved in boxing as a trainer, going on eight years now, I want to say that you are doing the right thing by having your boy box. It will do wonders for his confidence and self-esteem. And once he becomes good at it and word gets out, nobody will f**k with him, either.
Just be sure to let him do it on his own terms. As much as you want to give him advice, remember two things - he has a trainer to do that, and, more importantly, he's the one taking the punches.
Observe and encourage, don't watch and critique.

after 13 is fine. my friend was starting at that age.

coz he know how to protect himself and srtong and brave enough at the same time
