OS X is much better than Windows, there's no contest. You can also run Windows XP on Intel based Macintoshes if one needs to. You can even run them at the same time. (using Parallels)

God, it's true that the majority is actually retarded, hehe.

As a Certified Microsoft Professional, I actually know how EACH operating system works, and how it has evolved over time. I know all the hippie college students on here think Mac is better because it comes in a cool matte-white design and it's cool to "rebel against the corporate machine" or whatever...but the truth is that the stereotypes against PC's have died.

In the past, Windows WAS a target for viruses, and had a lot of security problems. After Service Pack 2, that problem diminished to about 10% of its previous capacity. The new security framework used in Windows Vista has "sealed the door" to viruses or security breaches. The WinFX framework of Vista is much more secure than that of XP's WinAPI.

Last week a girl in my laboratory came in and said, "God, I can't believe it! My computer got a virus this morning and it wiped out my whole harddrive...and it's weird because it's a brand-new Mac laptop!". My life-long friend Andy has been a Mac user since we were kids, and still is. He has one of those big Power Mac super-towers with all the bells and whistles...and after he uploaded the current trial of Leopard, he said it was so buggy and unreliable that he's reverting back to Tiger, and running Vista as his operating system. He showed me Leopard, and there was some horrible "error" every time he tried to open a simple .JPG or the internet. It was hilarious. He came over to my place, and was blown away by my Vista with Media Center (you got to get Media Center). Granted, I am running 3-gigs of RAM, a 3.4GHz Pentium 4, and a huge HD display.

As for stability of Vista: since I installed it over a month ago, I have NOT restarted my computer ONCE! And you're gonna love the new voice command! Andy couldn't believe I was navigating my entire computer and writing up a report while just laying in my bed and talking. And Media Center is the way God watches TV and movies.

Come on, guys. It's not 1994. Back then, all of these stereotypes were true...but it is now a thing of the past.

And if Mac engineers supposedly spend all their time on developing cool new features and Windows engineers supposedly spend all their time fighting viruses...then where is Mac's Media Center? Why didn't THEY develop the OS that lets you pause, fast forward, and rewind live TV...and records shows automatically that it thinks you'll like...and provides an interactive Guide that singles out movies from TV shows and groups them in any fashion you want? Why didn't THEY develop voice command to control the entire OS? Why didn't THEY put their entire operating system on a cell phone? Why didn't THEY develop the leading video game system that interacts wirelessly with their OS, and allows interchangable gameplay with the controllers? What ARE they working on?

At the end of the day: Microsoft wins again. They just make better stuff. I mean, I have the entire Windows OS on my friggin' cell phone...including Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Internet Explorer (which is fast as hell), Windows Media Player 11, everything. And it opens into a full keyboard. Apple said: Hey, let's make music portable! Microsoft said: Hey, let's make music, TV, movies, documents, and hell, the whole damn operating system portable! (I have voice command to run that, also). Microsoft just takes it to a new level all the time.

I like the Mac over Windows. I own an iBook G4, and I am running Mac OS Tiger 10.4, and it is the best operating system. My computer does not crash or freeze when I use it. A lot of the new Macs come with software called Front Row, which is kind of like Media Center. Good Luck,

I use a mac and my friends use windows. We have this debate going on. Yesterday I had the last laugh because he finally got a virus on his windows comp. I've had mine for like three years and not a single virus or problem I couldn't handle on my own.

Depends on your familiarity with the different types. Many artists and publishers prefer mac and those who think linear and detail oriented prefer PC.

PC is more common and cheaper to repair than mac.

Mac often has programs only available to itself where as many programs that run on PC also run on Mac.

You know, it doesn't even matter anymore! All the applications are on the internet anyway. Even Photoshop now has an internet based competitor. So...the answer is: go with your aesthetic preference.
