I don't know about them not being able to digest them, it may be more of a taste issue. My son, who will be two next month, loves cooked onions and onion rings.

I have had 3 children all of who loved things with onions in them.... My youngest actually loves raw onions and would eat them like apples when she was 18 months old (she is 9 years old and still eats them) ... Never did I find a trace of undigested onion in her diaper so I am going to say this is a myth... If she were unable to digest the onion I would definately have seen proof thereof in her diaper...

That depends entirely on just how old the toddler is..... If he or she is younger than 10 months, don't give them onions, if they are older than 10 months, they can digest onions just fine. Raw onions might be a bit tricky to feed them, though, but that is just because the flavour can be pretty harsh for the little one (but you never know, - the wee one just might like it - my nephew did...).

Someone should tell mine that - my two youngest both like baby pickled onions! Onions are hard to digest for anyone but not as difficult as banana or cheese. There are a lot of rumours out there about do's and don't for kids diets. The main one to avoid is honey in babies under 12mths old due to natural occurring bacteria that their systems are not mature enough to handle

My 20 month-old seems to like them both raw and cooked. She enjoys eating sliced raw purple onions out of salads. She has always seemed to like spicy tasting foods. She doesn't appear to have any problems digesting them.

I don't have facts whether they can or cannot digest onions, I just know that my 3 year old daughter loves fried onion rings, and there's never been a problem. She doesn't like raw onions though... she says it burns her tongue! he he he he

Yes, it is true. From experience, onions made my toddler have tummy aches and constipation. When he finally and painfully released the load, I could see chunks of undigested onions in his poo. That did it. NEVER again!

I also heard onions are bad for the eyes.

I don`t think it would be a very good idea for toddlers to eat onions at such a tender age,as there tiny tummies are still very delicate, and the acid content may give them upset stomach.

Why would you want to give your toddler raw onions?
