i think that this is a good idea, but then every religion would say well we want all our sabbats/ celebrations national too, so its fair.
there would be holidays constantly, we never get anything done!
also there are some religions where the celebrations are on the same period and then which religion would they be but under? its not fair to either to call it the religious holiday of the other religion. its quite complicated!
I think this is a could idea where Ramadam is predominatley celebrated in that country, but in other countries, such as the Uk i think it is impractical, we are a predominatley a Christian country and it would cause more religious tension and conflict.

The Philippines has so many holidays as it is. It is hard to get things accomplished when the government offices are always closed for one holiday or another. On the other hand, many Filipinos are Muslim, a much larger number per capita than the US. So I see no harm in declaring a holiday in the interests of Religious harmony. I would hate the terrorism that is on Mindinao to spread to my Island.

If the Philippines has a government that is separate from religion, then maybe she should have made it a "popular" special holiday and not a governmental holiday.
Separation of state and religion.

Sure, why not? All Christian holidays are national holidays, I think it's fair to make the last day of Ramadan, the last day of Hannakah and Kwanza a national holiday too.

You are right.
But do you mean the last day of Ramadan or the day of Eid? since it is not in Ramadan, it belongs to the next month, Shawwal.
