Not until we run out of oil!

No, not unless some end of the world disaster happened and only a few people were left in the world. Our present world could not live without the transportation system we have now. That was pounded home to me last year when Katrina hit New Orleans. We live in a small town in Texas about 150 miles from the ocean and when the second hurricane was coming in, they tried to evacuate Houston and they all came north thru our city. The roads in and out of town were clogged for days and we had no delivery of anything. In just 3 days we were out of gas. The grocery stores were out of milk, bread, meat, veg, water almost everything. Only some dented cans of stuff left. Power was out everywhere and it was hot with no AC and no water. And that was in THREE days. Imagine if it was a week or two. It scared me how quickly civilization can fall apart. We live in a mobile world and without the transportation we have now, we would cease to exist.

Maybe even farther back than that if the leaders of this world don't stop their chest pounding and bittering amonst themselves.
