If you mean: in the bowl itself, it sounds as if your tap water is high in iron content. Tap water chemistry varies greatly with respect to the source municipality, (hence the differing taste[s].
The DROP-IN (tank) tablets/products work to varying degrees for the same reason. They though, can harm the inner tank parts, I know; I've replaced all too many of them.
There is the option of an IN-LINE system that treats only the water. They are quite simple to install ('bout 5 minutes, no tools). Most any hardware store should have a variety of brands thereof. A grocer may also carry the type I speak of; e.g. brand name [Kaboom] - THAT IS NOT AN ENDORSEMENT, EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED for ANY BRAND .
Hope that helps.

Spread 'Harpic' or 'Sanilav' 100 percent limescale remover all over the bowl and under the rim, then leave overnight and brush. It is possible that the glaze may have worn off from the bowl below the water level.

Sounds like limescale to me - Mr Muscle sells a very good descaler - but it has to be the one suitable for toilets.
Failing that - bleach and a toilet brush (IE - Don't just pour bleach in - leave it to soak a while then brush vigorously to break up the scale.)

Put Domestos down every night before going to bed, when the last person in the house has used the toilet for the night, put a good amount down and leave it. After 2 weeks it will be gone.

This isn't a wind-up! Just pour a can of Coca Cola down the loo and leave it there for as long as possible. It works wonders!

buy one of those bleach tablets that go in the tank of your wc
it sounds like the water is what is staining the bowl, and there is probly nothing you can do about it except buy a rust colored one

There are two products I know of on the market. Kaboom and CLR. They are sold in the stores with all the other bathroom cleaners and are especially for this.

Use bleach or limescale remover, and use it every day. If you must use a toilet brush, make sure it's a disposable one - far more hygienic.
