That's ridiculous. If they want to wear a veil, that's their business. Some customs people have are because of their religion. As far as I know, in America we have freedom of religion. Also, you shouldn't give up your native customs! Sure, you should learn about the country you wish to live in. Learn the language and understand their culture as well, but don't give up yours in the process. It's part of who you are.

I agree with you. I recently served in germany in the US ARMY and the first thing we did was learn their customs and laws. ( It was tough when cold season hit. Over there it is an insult to spit on the ground. They consider that spiting on their country.) They should atleast respect our customs and laws. They shouldn't be forced to follow our customs but the should respect them. The laws on the other hand they must follow. They also should learn english. In Germany an immigrant is forced to learn german so why should it be different here. Even though we were just there for a year and a half we were taugh basic german. As far as their dressing goes it is a touchy subject. Yes they should be alowed to dress they way their religion believes but under certan sercomstances they may need to adapt. An example of this is picture ID's. There was an issue in my state a few years back involving muslim women. They didn't want to take of their viels for photo ID's. They said it was against their religion but how are we to ID them if we don't see their face. We can not wear a baseball cap to have a ID card made and it only covers our hair. If a cop pulls them over then they should show their face. If they go into a bank they should show their face. ( At a bank how are the tellers to know that you are not possing as them to access their account or you aren't using this viel as a discuise to rob the bank. It is not hard to order any kind of clothing online.) If they can wear veils the why can I wear my ski mask that I use during hunting season in there. This is there religion but no religion should be alowed to put others in danger. But as far as what they eat or how they pray that is up to them as long as they respect everyone elses freedom to believe the way they want too.

I think that is extreme. Religous customs need not change. But you should learn the language of the new country so that you can communicate effectively with others and make friends in your new home .
I do think that wearing a burqa when you are getting a drivers license picture should not be allowed. It could be described as a disguise.

The most important thing is to learn the main language of the country. Otherwise, you make life difficult for everyone because translators will be required. How do you think employees feel when a customer doesn't speak their language? It's a serious pain in the butt. It's also expensive. It's also dangerous in an emergency. People need to be able to communicate quickly.
Also, pay taxes! Pay your bills! Don't expect freebies. Taxpayers have to pay for your freebies. This is why so many Americans hate illegal aliens.

People need to learn English, I absolutely agree! And they should know something about the country they live in. They should become citizens if they plan on staying. As for religion, pray to whomever you please. As for clothing, wear whatever you wish. Are people judging you on your clothes? why should they be judged? Yes, maybe some articles of clothing will cause a stir and people may not react well, but it's not the fault of the immigrant wearing the clothing, it's the fault of the ignorant person who is unwilling to understand another culture and its religious requirements. People following Islam are not the only ones with religious guidelines telling them what to wear and yet people of other religions have been able to integrate without a problem.

What an awesome question!! positioned the shoe on the different foot, and also you get a probability to initiate understanding new ideas. shall we've a flow then. i do not truly comprehend for particular what the expats do in different international locations yet i believe that it varies in accordance to the custom of the host united states and its custom. i have lengthy been a believer that you ought to have many diverse robust residing house cultures global, so that you would possibly want to have style and style accessible (eg fish & chips from uk, paella from spain, pizza from Italy, curry from India, hen fried rice from china and so on). those residing house cultures might want to then be ready to play host to different diverse (very nearly shopper) cultures, so as that the host community receives to journey them besides. notwithstanding those so called shopper cultures are coming from different places, and in those places you would possibly want to also want that custom to be the host. obviously you consequently want many diverse hosts to be robust and strong and constructive with the intention to maintain the provision of those type of diverse flavours in the international, because otherwise there's a probability that each and every thing might want to finally end up a similar and change into unbearably uninteresting. This variety of constructive host cultures global holding their unique identities then, at the same time as the emmigrant communities carry that outwards to be travelers elsewhere, probable doesn't journey as a lot because the present fashions and expectancies of integration and multiculturalism, yet when lets tutor that searching the right stability might want to somewhat protect different cultures, then we'd want to have a platform from which to attitude this subject. it is a shame that extra cultures global can't be better about their id, because there's a lot style to happy with in the international right this moment, and that i worry that if we received't get onto a social gathering of that quickly, lets initiate seeing too a lot merging / fusion and the lack of numerous unique, unusual and valuable minority cultures.

that is idiotic.so are you trying to tell me that if you go let's say to mexico you will quit celebrating july 4th and thanksgiving and instead start celebrating may 5 and sept 18? and completely start eating the custom foods of that country.sorry but highly doubt it,if that were the case I wouldn't see so many subway, mcdonald's and walmart stores in mexico that cater to the american tourists.truth of the matter is that you can't deny where you are from and most people that see you and know what ethnic background you are from assume you carry certain customes. And I know this frome experience, because I have had people who once they know i'm mexican assume that I know how to cook tamales, quesadillas and tacos, without once thinking "hey she's american she assimilated into the country and eats what we do".

The USA is designed to be a free country. As far as I know, religious customs and dress codes are not included in our laws. If you would like to live in a less free country, maybe you should go somewhere else.
That is my opinion.

I think it's fine to keep your customs and traditions, but obey the laws of your new home, and understand that snubbing local customs is considered rude and unsocial.
My Nonna did't stop eating pasta when she came to America, but she enjoyed a hotdog at the baseball game, too.

I agree 100%. Celebrate the holidays and customs of your old country on special occasions, but become an American. Sheesh, this is so sad.
When I go to foreign countries I do as the Romans do. I never expect the Romans to do as I do!
