Manual.....the driver controls when to shift gears. In an automatic the gears shift automatically {duh} when the RPMs reach a certain level. The RPMs seem to run high before the car shifts gears, much higher than you would let them get with a standard transmission. When they run high, the car burns more gas.

Manual transmissions. WIth a manual trans. you can manually control the engine rpms, shifting gears when you want to. In addition when slowing down or braking, you can put a manual in neutral and coast using only the brakes to slow down. An auto trans gears down in order to slow a vehicle down. Plus w/ a manual transmission the gear ratio can be manipulated to a point. There is not set shift point at which the engine operates.

Actually many of the new cars with automatics are rated for higher mileage than the stick shift.
Automatics have been made more efficient and control shift points better for better economy.
If you're real careful and don't hot rod, a manual might do better in some vehicles.

Manual. Hydromatic transmission is not efficient. You, as the changer don't use fuel .. to change the gears. But you can reduce the efficiency by not changing at the right time.

usually manual transmission is more efficient - energy loss in mechanical transmission is smaller, since there is no slip in the mechanical gears, also in mechanical transmission there are usually more gears then in automatic (hydro kinetic) transmission so the power train (engine + transmission) can operate in the more efficient range.
the only thing that can diminish fuel efficiency in mechanical transmission is driver's behavior (shifting gears at too low or too high speed)

Manual, of course. The link between the engine and drive is direct friction. The automatic uses a fluid drive. Slippage at idle.

handbook. you would be a greater robust motive force. you isn't waiting to text cloth jointly as using extremely common yet, hi which would be a competent concern. you have greater power and administration over the engine and subsequently greater effective gasoline economic gadget, gearbox placed on and quite some different issues. whilst an computerized transmission is going it is going to cost you a bomb! depending on what automobile you're getting and what your worth you additionally can might desire to finally finally end up advertising the automobile whilst confronted with a $2500 restoration invoice to put in a clean tranny. handbook transmission are greater environmentally freindly as they burn much less oil and gasoline and degrade swifter interior the unload. might the Farce be with you.
