It was doomed to fail from the outset. George and Tony KNEW that there were no WMD in Iraq - they just wanted an excuse to invade to take control of the oil in that country (by control I don't mean ownership).
It's about time we prevented further deaths on ALL sides and pulled out.

Lots of other senior US politicians, including George [?] Baker, have said similar things. All too often, Geo.W.Bvsh and co. have misquoted Winston Churchill. They should instead have quoted one of his most famous lines; "Jaw jaw is better than war war".
The Americans are now seen as gungho and trigger happy by many around the world, behaving much in the manner of the late 9th Legion of the Roman Army which murdered thousands during its long campaign of 'terror' in the Middleast.
During the 30 years of IRA operations, on mainland Britain and in the north of Ireland, the Brits sat down with their IRA counterparts to work out deals. The result of all of this hard work behind the scenes is that we now have a peace process which will hopefully work.
By bringing people to the table for talks, it raises their status from mere terrorists and brings them into the real world of political debate and ultimately to a realisation that they can fulfil some of their aims via the political process.
There were and are no WMDs in Iraq. The war in Iraq is an illegal one. A democracy will not be established because it has been imposed from outside.
All democracies start with a revolution. Here in UK the English Civil war then the Chartists of the 19th century, ultimately lead to a form of democracy which we all agree with and can understand. No such movement, as far as I know, exists or ever existed in Iraq. The people there seem hell bent on having a civil war. Let them. The final outcome may very well be a form of democracy. If not, so what!

I'm afraid it's worse than arrogant and stupid, it was always a cynical attempt to sieze control of the oilfeilds and blame Saddam and terrorism as the justification. It's high time the UN took out sanctions against the US and the UK for launching an illegal invasion contrary to UN authorisation.

yes i agree, US has a hand on everywhere, they always manipulate, provoke, and battle against some forces for some reason. Why don't the soldiers stay at home to defend their country instead of offending others'? ..If there's a worldwide threat against peace, UN has to deal with it, not the US..

I think they are still arguing about the translation, but I agree there must be a way of leaving the Iraqis to sort out the mess we have made without it being too obvious that that's the plan!

I think we can file this under: Things that might have made a difference had they been properly and aggressively shared with the country prior to invasion.
