If you are catholics, especaially Italian, Spanish, Mexican Catholic. What are those scarves(usually very ornate) that older Catholic women used to wear to cover their head to church called? I know my older relatives wore them (Mexican), and I've also seen older Italian women wear them. I'm sure other Catholic nationalities wore them too, I'm just not aware of them. Why did they wear them? why have they stopped? I think the scarves are lovely.

Mantilla. Often black for older women and white for younger women, although I've seen them in red and other colors.

Lace scarves are still seen in our church, Woman's Headdress is in I Corinthians 11:3-16 it speaks of women who Prophesied or prayed in church, their head should be covered or veiled . It will be good to read it, it does not sound that they would have to be veiled or covered outside of church or when not praying or prophesying. It does not give the name of of the headdress . Yes They are lovely , and sometimes large, and I have seen them small, just covering the crown of the head. Usually white.

I don't know what they are called, but some women at my church still wear them. It says somewhere in the Bible that women should cover their heads when they pray (I can't remember where or the exact words...sorry). I think maybe this is why but I am not sure about that. I don't know why they have stopped either.

Peace of Christ

women are commanded to cover their hair and be modest in ALL faiths, people who pick on Muslim women who choose to cover their hair are simply ignorants.
