Jack Ruby, a bar owner from Dallas, shot & killed Lee Harvey Oswald. Prior to his own death, he gave several reasons why he shot Oswald. In William Manchester's excellent book Death of a President, Ruby says he killed Oswald to spare Jacqueline Kennedy the ordeal of the trial prosecuting her husband's killer.

Ruby shot Oswald. He SAID it was because he was upset that Oswald killed his president. You probably know that JFKs death was one of the most mysterious assassinations in world history.
