The language of love!

No matter what else ANYONE says, the undeniable answer to this question is English, Chinese and Spanish. These are the three most spoken languages on the planet and if you are fluent in these three you can go nearly anywhere in the world and find someone who you can communicate with.

Contrary to popular belief, French is not as widely spoken as most people think. Portuguese for example, is spoken by 230 million people world wide and only 175 million people speak French (and that is native speakers and those who learned it); however, French is considered more popular because of its once-prestigious status.
English is spoken by over 1.5 billion, Chinese (Mandarin) by 850 million, and Spanish by 460 million.

Bottom line, learn English. Judging by the fact that you posted in it, it can be assumed you already know it, so learn Chinese or Spanish; you can't go wrong with those three.

Don't learn Spanish and Portuguese at the same time. And if you plan learning both, firstly you got to get VERY good in one or you are going to mix them eventually. And it doesn't really matter, big languages like these are almost equally important unless you plan to travel to specific countries. I think French is more important than German as French people know less English then German. And I think Portuguese may not be worth the time and you may mix it with Spanish. Maybe the most important are Spanish, French, and German. They would be the best choices for a resumé, but anything else would be more based on opportunities than influence.

like in 1984 by George Orwell, they will have a new language where everything is shortened, haha, no, ENGLISH will always be top, i think----however, INDIA has the highest population now, and browns are pretty smart, so HINDI, GUJURATI, etc. may win, of course, there are a lot of chinese, so maybe MANDARIN. french and italian are the coolest (i speak french, a little bit of italian) though

English for now(already), Chinese for ten years later, Spanish for next ten years!!

English: used by the u.s. the u.k. Australia and NewZeland...and African countries

Chinese: the Chinese population is raising, and many Asian countries use it for first/second language

Spanish: the same situation as Chinese now, not only Spain, Mexico, and most of the south-American countries use it.

well, I gues Chineese can be one of them, as China is having very high populationa and they are rising economically...plus you already speak one of the languages of prersence and futus - English...and also do not forgett the so called giraffe language www.cnvc.org. The third one, according to my oppinion is the most important. I have been learning it for more than a year, and it is amaising how much it contributed to my life. I learn to communicate to others and to myself...something I was not thought in any other language course.
Good luck!
