You were a spirit in Heaven ( the scripture says God knew you before you were conceived). You were conceived and then birthed, God then breathed Himself into you, and you became a living soul. Everytime another human is conceived, it then becomes a living soul. All life comes from the true and living God. He is the first and the last, the beginning and the end, the alpha and the omega.

There is one source of life-some might call it the Godhead or the cosmic consciousness-but every soul has come from and is spiritually one with the source. We only experience this illusion of materialism for a short time in order to grow spiritually before returning to the source.

It depends on your religion as to what answer you accept.
I think that spirits don't reproduce themselves. I think we (souls) are being recycled (past lives/reincarnation). That's the only way to explain cell memory, past life regretion, etc.

The soul is your body, it says so in the bible. So it takes two bodies, one female, one male, to reproduce. There's your answer.
