Just because I don't believe in YOUR god doesn't mean I don't believe in a god.

Derek K-I have. And your god and I have just agreed to disagree.

James-There's no need to label anybody. Labels suck.

You don't believe in my version of God?? How unbelieving is that? I thought I was the absolute version of how to believe in a higher power.

Seriously, I don't understand how anyone can assume that the Highest Power can be defined by one individual belief. It makes no sense to me. I think we should all be allowed to walk our own paths and in our own time, decide if there even is a God. If a person does choose to believe in a Higher Power, then let that person decide if there is religious tradition required.

One step at a time....don't ya think??

I don't like this practice either. I have always been a very religious person yet since I have never believed in Christianity, I am called a non-believer. It is insulting. I don't use the label "non-believer" for anyone because everyone believes in something--or the absence of something. It is very insulting but I don't think that those who use the word "non-believer" care whether they insult others or not.

It's actually worse. Really, 'non-believer' should mean that doesn't believe in anything. Not just in SOME god (whichever) but in anything at all. You see to what extent they dominate societies. They have even changed the language, so that 'unbeliever' or 'non-believer' means 'not believing in God', when in fact 'unbelievers' do believe. I believe it's going to rain tomorrow, for instance. Doesn't that make me a 'believer'?

You are absolutely right. Anybody who calls anyone else a non-believer has to specify as to a non-believer of what theological doctrine for e.g. Unity of God etc.

because it might be apparent that you do not believe in the same god as the one who is labeling you as a non-believer....

lighten up, its just a label to make it easier for them to put together their thoughts, ideas, phrases, sentences, paragraphs, & what have yous.

what do you want them to call you...

you, yes you with the rational mind who would endeavor to soak yourself in science, science-fiction, philosophy, history and other books rather than the ancient sacred scriptures we ourselves study and have become convinced of its authentticity and veracity...

Additional details:

okay to answer your question:
i believe the proper term (or label) should be unbeliever

so if a Christian for example calls himself a believer (in Christ, or God, or the Bible)
it would have been normal for him to call someone who doesn't share his/her belief system as an unbeliever (in Christ, in God, in the Bible)...

so it's just that really... labels... we all use them...
you in fact label yourself as Master Yoda....
but people do not necessarily call your label as something that s*cks...

Your own way you must find. In a god you do believe. Master Yoda, with you may the force be.

I find the term non-believer a bit rude myself. I am curious as to why someone assumes that because I am non-Christian, I am a non-believer.
Thumbs up for this question!!!

That puts all religions in the same exact catagory - as if it didn't matter what you believed so long as you believed SOMETHING. It isn't a question of theist vs. atheist, it's a question of Religion a vs. Religion b vs. Religion c vs. Religion d vs. Religion e(ad nauseam)

Ummmmmm, I don't know how to explain this. Well, you are a non-believer of our God, so thats what they mean. I'm not going to quote bible verses and crap, but I'm going to ask: Did you ever give our God a chance? Try it out.

God bless! Peace!
