Let's not forget that the US sold arms to Iraq to help fight Iran and yes, Ollie North and the GOP sold arms to Iran, sounds kind of like a conspiracy huh? But out of all this why weren't these men that sold arms to Iran jailed? Let me bring to your attention that Bush Sr. was Mr. CIA director who's main goal to this very day is to create a New World Order, there's just one problem, the middle east wants nothing to do with it, Iran, Iraq, Palestine and so on. So in order for this New World Order to become reality, the middle east must be destroyed which is the real reason we invaded Iraq and now going after Iran. This is all staged.

Ollie North was a scapegoat for Bush I who orchestrated the whole thing through the CIA which he was a member of before being a Senator. The whole Iran/Contra episode was swept under the rug out of security concerns. Clinton was primed to launch investigations and to have Bush I and Reagan thrown in jail for treason which is where they belonged. The CIA and NSA advised Clinton to chill out and he listened to them.

The whole Iran arms deal was setup during the 1980 campaign before Reagan was even president. Look up "October Surprise".

Congress had forbidden federal money to flow to the contras in Latin u . s . of america via fact they had formed dying squads that had killed an American nun. The Reagan administration cooked up a scheme the place with the help of giving weapons to Iran. The Iranians might provide money to the contras and theoretically no longer go away a money path. It replaced into found out and interior the tip the president pardoned north and a number of of alternative others so the prosecutors might have no leverage on them to implicate the president.

Neither the Republican Party nor the Democratic Party have ever sold weapons to Iran. The US government sold weapons to Iran. The actions of those in government service are the actions of the government, not the actions of the party. If you are going to ask a slanted question, ask it properly.
There are several times in history where the US has supported a government/country that has later became hostile towards the US.

The culprits were: Ron Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Oliver North, and John Poindexter. North and Poindexter were convicted, but the conviction was over ruled on a technicaltiy. Bush I should have been in prison, and Reagan should have been have been impeached. It was a flagrant viololation of the law and even if North had been "ordered" to do what he did, he missed the mark, you don't have to obey an illegal order.

North and the Reagan administration traded arms to Iran for hostages taken by Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Nixon, Ford, and Carter sold the Shah of Iran any conventional weapon system that he wanted. The US provided training for the Iranians too.

That's how politics works. Today's ally is tomorrow's enemy when the weather changes. When the Soviets invaded Afghanistan, we supported the Taliban and Al Qaeda because we liked Islamic extremists more than we liked communists. It's always been this way.

I believe it was to get our hostages out of Iran. Getting the hostages out helped Reagan to become president.
