to reitterate if a person only becomes a preist to succure his place in heaven is this not a display of his greed of wanting more than he would need in a afterlife? For what man truely diserves heaven?

No one truly deserves heaven. "It is by grace we are saved, through faith and that not of ourselves. It is the free gift of God, not the result of works, that no one should boast."

When we begin to understand grace, the only response is obedience. Our sinfulness in the light of God's holiness--forgiven--what other response can there be?

Do people really choose lives of self-sacrifice for solely selfish purposes? It seems a contradiction, but maybe some do. God knows all our hidden motives and he still forgives us. That's what's so amazing about grace.

Ummm, once you're a Christian, it's more than just getting your ticket to heaven. It's also about winning souls and adding to the kingdom of God. it gives you purpose in your life. Heaven isn't the main thing that most Christians are after. It's just a comfort to know that you'll be spending eternity in heaven.

It's kinda like insurance. You don't look forward to having your house burn down and getting the money, but you have the comfort that its there. Not that getting to heaven which is achieved only by faith, has anything to do with money or good works, but you get the picture.

Peace!

heaven belongs to all ,being a priest to do good to earn your place is a high worthy aim
in the end it is the good and bad you did or caused to be done
to save yourself is not foolish ,
greed is but one sin it has its own hell ,there are so many hells greed is just where the greedy go
greed is selfserving you cant really take it with you anyway
just by avoiding temptations you will earn a place in the heavens again according to your loves
everyone has an afterlife our loves and our hates our fears and desires just pick whichones we go to first.
all creation deserves what they desire and get it
heaven would be hell to evil because they would hate it.thus they go to an unrewarding hell or unfulfilled heaven same thing really.
like attracts like.do the good that you love
avoid the evil you dislike ,we cant go wrong with love.greed is never being content with what you allready got too much of.so in hell youre allways getting and losing the same your insatiable greed needs.

There is no way to "work your way into Heaven." You gain access into Heaven by FAITH not works. It is said that there is a place prepared for those that will be welcome into the kingdom of Heaven. If that retiree turned priest really had a change of heart and accepted the Savior then, there is a possibility of them being let in. God knows all things, so if that person held in their heart that they were becoming a priest to get in, this is not a sincere conversion; I doubt they would be granted.

Everyone should fear death, and everyone should fear the judgement of God.

With this in mind, Jesus told his followers not to do things expecting a reward, instead, do it (live a Godly life) out of a sense of duty. Don't treat others with kindness expecting God to be watching you, treat others with kindness because it's the right thing to do.

Big difference.

As for becoming a priest, one must be careful that being called into the service of God is a privilege and a sacred duty. One should not do it for any other reason than knowing one has the talent and the strength to live the life and fulfill the duty to God.

It's all about self-less-ness, not self-ISH-ness.

Works won't get you to heaven.

Tts 3:3 For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, [and] hating one another.
Tts 3:4 But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,
Tts 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
Tts 3:6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;
Tts 3:7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

The way to heaven is through Jesus Christ. Following his Commandments and teachings means helping others in need. It's not enough to believe in Jesus. Christians must follow up with good deeds, kindness, love for others, compassion, etc. For it through our interaction with others that truly proves our relationship with God. Christ shed his blood so that man may enter heaven. This goal is not in itself greedy. We should be proud to be holy and fully expect to reach the kingdom of heaven...)(

God's ways are not man's ways.

With God, it's quite possible to gain everything for yourself while giving away all that you have, and devoting your life to the service of others.

Jesus did it. His mother did it.

We can do it, if we choose.

It has nothing to do with what we deserve.

It has everything to do with the goodness and mercy of God.

yes, they are in greed. they dont really mean what they do, even if it is good. It does not count to his heaven, if there is heaven.
