One thing must be said ASAP: Anyone going for that crap about male circumcision being same as female is clueless. If it's the same why is it that a circumcised male can still HAVE ORGASMS and ENJOY SEX but a "circumcised" female will NEVER experience orgasm?! Maybe b/c they remove her entire clitoris? Anyway, the question: Imam Mufti Ebrahim Desaiat said at an ask an Imam type of website that "female circumcision pleases Allah and increases her husband's sexual pleasure" (?!). Last year I was asked to take my then fiancé’s daughter to a doctor's appt....they are Muslim and from West Africa. The Doc and I talked alone after the exam and she carefully informed me this beautiful,11 yo girl's clitoris and labia had obviously been removed. I slid down a wall and cried hysterically (he's my ex now of course). I knew they were'nt the most pro-woman group on the planet but damnnn! Is this barbaric, woman-hating practice officially encouraged by ISLAM?! Is it in the Quran?! Someone tell me pls?

This Imam is full of it. I am a muslim woman. My sisters in law are all muslims. I don't know any muslim woman who has had this done. I have not seen a single thing in the Quran regarding women circumcision except that a woman's body is NOT to be mutilated and that she has every right to sexual pleasure from her husband. That's impossible if the pleasure button is missing. I don't put much stock in what idiot Imams have to say. I even came across one who claimed women were toys and should remain silent until they are called. No where is this practiced in islam and the Prophet (PBUH) never told women to be quiet. Women were every part of society and even argued with him. Whoever was right he would say it. It wasn't based on what was between the legs. This same Imam said that women were "deficient" in intelligence because they keep having children knowing it's painful, then at the same time says she may never use birth control and she may never refuse her husband. It's an oxymoron, like the Imam is a moron. Don't believe everything you hear. It's good you got rid of your ex. He was not very islamic. Here is my evidence:It is common knowledge in Islam that if the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, had wanted female circumcision to be an integral aspect of religious practice in Islam the same way that male circumcision is, he would have said so clearly. Since he did not do so, we can safely assume it is not a prescribed ritual of Islam."

I suppose that with all the other answers from the Muslims, you get the idea that this is not an Islamic practice. Isn't it funny that only the Islamophobes insist that it is? As if every one of us are clueless about the very faith we put into practice every day, lol! Unfortunately, there are some of us that are a bit, "off" on our understandings of religious and non-religious practices, and this "Imam" seems to be one of them, as do the Muslims that fall to the misteachings of him and others like him.

So to re-inforce what has been said by others before me, this is in no way at all condoned by Islam or the Qur'an, and to further emphasize this, I'd like to point out that in Islamic teachings, a woman has the full right to divorce her husband if he does not satisfy her. If taking away the very part of a woman that pretty much guarantees satisfaction if used right ;-) was acceptable, why would this right even be considered?

This is not condoned by Islam or the Quran. It IS heavily practiced in Africa, however. It causes heavy scarring around the vagina, which makes the girl very small inside. The removal of the clitoris is done because some people figure that a woman is only for childbearing, and should not enjoy the act of sex, but should simply endure it for her husband's pleasure. It is also to ensure that she does not stray from her husband. I have read that a woman who has been circumcised suffers excrutiating pain when she has sex.

The "surgery" is usually performed in the desert, with no anasthesia, by an elder woman of the tribe, with a rusty knife. Many girls don't survive the ensuing infection.

Many African men require this of their future wives, and will not marry a girl who is whole. It is considered a badge of shame for a girl to be uncircumcised, but there are small groups here and there that are looking to change this practice.

Female genital mutilation occurs in Central and Southern Africa and those countries aren't Islamic. Only Northern Africa is Muslim countries. Female genital mutilation isn't allowed in Islam and has more to do with cultures. It's a heinous act that shouldn't be forced on young girls at all and no I don't agree with it because it is wrong and barbaric. It has nothing whatsoever to do with Islam.

If u haven't read the quran, pls do so. no where in the quran does this 'circumcised' female comes. I have never heard of this 'Imam Mufti Ebrahim Desaiat' and I'm glad I have not.

The answer to your question is this: It is no where in the Quran and up to my knowledge, no where in the authunticated ahadith books. Islam dosn't treat women like slave the way it is pictured in Europe.... ok... there r some people who think women r like livestock but ISLAM dosn't say that. ok???? Islam gives a lot of honour to women. Prove me wrong.

The concept of FEMALE circumcission is absolutely NOT in the Quran nor encouraged in Islam. Even the male circumcission is optional and NOT obligatory!!
In certain African countries and indigenious traditions it is widely practised not just among the Muslims but also Christians and other religious belief systems. It is a cultural custom rather than a religious belief. And those Imams who preach such false beliefs are ignorant, misleading, male chauvunists who apparently have NOT read the entire Quran or the teachings of Prophet Mohammed at all!.

Female circumcision has nothing to do with Islam!!! It is not in the Quran!

In fact, Islam forbids anything which may cause harm to a person's body/health as the body is a sacred trust from God and not to be abused.

Male circumcision is part of Islam, following the practice of the Prophet Abraham (pbuh), and it's benefits are well known. Jews also practice male circumcision.

Unfortunately this is a tribal practice mainly in Africa. The people who practice it may wrongly attribute it to Islam due to their lack of knowledge/ignorance. The medical profession and islamic scholars condemn this practice and are working to educate the people who do this.

No, it is not in the Quran and it has never been said or done in the past in any other country.
It happens only in Africa and I repeat it only happens in Africa. Ppl in Africa do lot of weird things and am totally against it. There is a tribe who has marks on their faces. The mark is like a lion has scratched his paw over ur cheek. Each cheek has a claw mark, digging deeper, some with 2 lines on each side and some with 3 lines on each cheeks.
Africa should come out of the Barbariac age.
I have met lot of africans from various parts of africa so that is how I know.

I Think it still happens !!

Yes it is still definitely happening. Oprah had it on one of her shows to tell how barbaric it is...much more than male circumcision which I think is also barbaric though.
Girls that has this cannot have orgasms and often have terrible infections and other gyno problems as a result for life!
Females are still horribly treated around the world. In India, men can kill their wives and get off scott free! The usual practice is to burn them. Yes I said burn them! And this is still happening today. Talk about barbaric! Men are privileged masters all around the world torturing women like slaves they can do anything to. Women continue to revolt against this crap. Even in the US, we are still not receiving comparable pay to men of all races and job discrimination against us is rampant. Why? Because there are advances in women's rights in the US so people think sexism doesn't exist here anymore. But yes it does! Again women why do you put up with this? You are as fully human as these over-privileged egotistical men! Demand your full rights as a full human being! Stop allowing them to dominate and control and boss you around. Stand up, grow up and be responsible for yourselves too while your at it.
