Women are treated so poorly?? Why are they forbiddon to vote? Why must they cover their faces? Are they ugly? Why do their husbands work them like slaves?----while the hubby does nothing but relax. Why must they ask their husbands 'permission' to do *any*thing? I see these women on the news everyday. They have no voice, they're not permitted one.

This doesn't sound nor look like a God who likes women very much,...........now just WHY would I want to convert and become one of them???

the image you are describing isnt the image of a muslim woman but rather of women of a certain opressed culture that has more to do with their traditions than with Islam. I am a muslin woman who is just like any other woman you may pass by in the street. In fact you may pass by me and not even know that i am muslim. I attend college, i have the right to vote, i am not married yet, i do not cover my face, and i am definitely not ugly.
the Qur'an states, "And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and guard their modesty and not to display their adornment except that which appears ordinarily thereof, and to draw their veils over their necks and bosoms...which means to be conservative of yourself and your body, which gains you respect and maintains your dignity. Islam never said to cover the face, for the face is the most beautiful thing in a person.

"Women are treated so poorly?"
not all Muslim women are treated so poorly as you claim, in Islam women are to be treated with respect. ignorant men treat their women poorly whether Muslims or Christians/Arabs or Americans.

"Why are they forbiddon to vote?"
they are not forbidden to vote in ALL the Muslim countries that i know of, i dont know where you got that from, but i can imagine it happening in some countries and it has nothing to do with Islam, it must be their tribal culture.

"Why must they cover their faces?"

they dont have to cover their faces, Muslim women are commanded to cover their HAIR not their face, covering the face is not an Islamic obligation for women. in some countries they do cover the face and again it is their culture not their religion.

"Are they ugly?" stupid question!! but, Islam is a religion not a race.

"Why do their husbands work them like slaves?----"

i guess i answered that question in the first question, AGAIN, ignorant men treat their women like slaves whether they are Muslims or Christians. PS: women abuse is BIG in the US.

"while the hubby does nothing but relax. Why must they ask their husbands 'permission' to do *any*thing?"

in Islam the man is the one responsible for supporting the family, so your claim is False.

"I see these women on the news everyday. They have no voice, they're not permitted one."

how come i don't see AT ALL?!!! how about you show us something from what you see on TV "every day" ?

"This doesn't sound nor look like a God who likes women very much,...........now just WHY would I want to convert and become one of them???"

NO ONE put a gun to your head and told you to convert, but again, if you actually take the time to know about Islam you'll find that you are absolutely wrong.

What your boss replaced into asserting is acceptable. In Islam there's a equipment stated as Hijab (meaning cover specially overlaying of physique). There are six standards for this Hijab for adult males & as properly as females. For adult males the factors are: a million. The minimum section which ought to continually be coated is from the navel to the knee. 2. the clothing should not be tight, that it exhibits the parent 3. it won't be sparkling, which you will leaf via 4. it won't be glamorous, that it attracts the different intercourse 5. it won't be comparable via fact the gown of the different intercourse 6. it won't be the non secular image of alternative faiths for females standards 2 to six are the comparable. yet standards-a million - the quantity of overlaying is her total physique (different than her palms & face).

With the exception of a few select societies, Muslim women typically are not oppressed or forced to wear a veiled head covering, the "hijab", they wear it because they believe in Allah and that He wants the best for his servants, so wearing Head cover must be for her own best.
They are not servants to their husbands and children. People often mistakenly believe Muslim women "...basically have no identity. We follow whatever the man of the house says,"
In Islam, the scarf or the veil is a sign of modesty for women. What people do not know is that men also have to be modest and have to cover to a certain degree. But, women cover to a higher degree because they have more beautiful features. The veil represents modesty.

Men are supposed to protect their families and financially support them, so Muslim women are to relax while men working so hard for their luxury.

And before you go with your cut and dry thoughts about Islam try to educate yourself a bit.

Please understand this. Women in Islam are treated with respect and dignity.

What you are talking about is not Islamic. It's the interpretation of a society on how they should apply or enforce the Sharia on their people, and unfortunately, a lot of tradition and culture gets mixed in the pot.

This is unfortunate, but it should not make you change your mind about converting. I assume you will be living in a western society where western tradition and culture is dominant, and therefore, would be able to practice your religion and live your life in a way that satisfies your needs.

Seems like you are watching the wrong channels. Another aspect of the Muslim society is that women are out there working in the fields of men, with men. They are supporting their husbands in running a family, performing religious duties and also raising children on their own with minimal help from nannys etc.

And wearing the veil is an option. If women wear it, its just that they respect their religion, they are proud to be a muslim and they want to protect themselves from other mens' lustful eyes.

I'm afraid you don't know what you are talking about Mikweed!!
Do you not know that more women than men are converting to Islam?? Why do you think this is?? Which woman would wanna CHOOSE to follow a religion which is oppressive to her??!!

OBVIOUSLY the answer is that Islam is not oppressive to women at all!!

this is going to take a while as you have present a GREAT NUMBER of false things. but in islam we are taught to be patient so i will address as many as i have knowledge in.

lets start here:
hubby is not allowed to sit around relaxing. hubby is ABSOLUTELY required to provide for his wife and children.

Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because Allah has given the one more (strength) than the other, and because they support them from their means. Therefore the righteous women are devoutly obedient, and guard in (the husband's) absence what Allah would have them guard.
-Holy Quran verse 4:34

because men provide for the women they are considered the head of the household. women are consulted but man is given the final word, as in Christianity.

First, there is an appointed scale of authority that God has prescribed for humankind, though such is scarcely recognized in today’s modern world. Paul alludes to it in 1st Corinthians 11:2ff, namely: God is he head of Christ, Christ is the head of every man, and man is the head of woman.

For our present purpose we will explore the meaning of the phrase, “the head of the woman is the man.” The Greek term is kephale. The word may be used literally of a physical head (Mark 6:24), or, metaphorically, of “rank,” as in the present case.

i will edit and answer some more of your silly questions

EDIT:

the hijab (headcovering)

33:59] O prophet, tell your wives, your daughters, and the wives of the believers that they shall lengthen their garments. Thus, they will be recognized (as righteous women) and avoid being insulted. GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful

the theory behind hijab is that if a womans adorments are taken and her body covered all that is left to be seen is her personality.

this is also ordered in christianity:

But I would have you know that the head of every man is Christ and the head of the woman is the man, and the head of Christ is God. Every man praying or prophesying with his head covered, disgraces his head. But every woman praying or prophesying with her head uncovered disgraces her head, for it is the same as if she were shaven. For if a woman is not covered, let her be shaven. But if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut off or her head shaved, let her cover her head. A man indeed ought not to cover his head, because he is the image and glory of God. But woman is the glory of man. For man was not created for woman, but woman for man. This is why the woman ought to have a sign of authority over her head, because of the angels.

-Holy Bible Corinthians Ch 11 verses 3-10

i can assure you the Muslim women that cover are not ugly. i am a former model muslim convert (no i will not show you pics to prove this as many ask.... wouldnt that defeat the purpose of my covering now?) moreover many friends i have are much more beautiful that any western model i have ever seen......

DO YOUR RESEARCH!!!!

Because mankind is flawed. Women have been second class citizens for a long time throughout world history. Heck, in the united states they still are paid less then men.
