I agree with Ellie.... get a water bottle. My kitten will leave anything alone after a firm "NO" and a water bottle pointed at her. Yet, she LOVES to drink from that same water bottle. I also tried spanking my kitten, but that didn't seem to work; I would go with the bottle because your kitten could grow up to be afraid of you or nasty like you said, but she will only be fearful of a water bottle if you go that route. Good luck.

I will tell you, cats just seem to have a mind of their own. I have one whos mom abandoned him before he was even old enough to eat food. I had to bottle feed him plus four others. So I have pretty much been with him most of his life. He still dosen't take well to me scolding him. Just don't swat her they really despise that. Just talk in an authoritive voice say her name and say no or
point at the floor and tell her to get down. They are just very stubborn, have some patience and try this. It works for mine (sometimes) By nature they love to be up high off the floor. You might try getting a climbing post. Hope this helps

Swatting a cat is actually counter-productive (although, you can give a cat a little tap on the butt or top of tail whn he's doing a "no-no"). Squirt bottles are good for training, but when I don't have one handy, I slap a flat surface like a table, counter top, or floor with my open palm to "shock" the cat to attention - I find that the loud noise my hand makes is enough of a deterrent without hurting the cat one wee bit. Of course, gotta say "No!" simultaneously with the slap. But let me repeat: Slapping your cat is counter-productive. He will just learn to fear you, not obey you.

Not likely, just need to make sure to have "ground rules" for the Kittie, mine have learned, NO you can not sleep on the stove, NO you do not eat my dinner etc etc. Just be firm and consistent, they are really smart creatures and will pick up on the "good" and "bad" spots in the house. She hissed as a defensive mechanism, this is probably the first time you disciplined her and it startled her. I just pick mine up, tell them no and put them on the floor. Whoever said you can't train an older cat had no clue, my one rescue was almost 2 when I got him.

I have to agree with everyone who mentioned the spray bottle. I have a psycho kitten who's alittle older than your's and she used to get on everything! I got a spray bottle and when she got on something she didn't supposed to, I gave her a squirt.
It does take awhile for them to figure out they can't get on everything, but let her have a spot just for her. Either build or buy her a cat condo that is pretty tall (4+ feet tall)...they like to be high so they can "look down on the world".
Hope this helps...lots of patiences helps too. : )

No she was just surprised and taken back that she got scolded and punished for doing something that she might not have known was wrong. It wont effect her attitude what so ever; I could understand a mean, nasty cat after constant abuse, but you were just punishing her =) thats all.

Hissing at such a young age is more of a reaction than a threat. She didn't like you smacking her, so she let you know. If she lets you hold her, then I am sure that she doesn't remember what happened. But like with anything (animal or child) they will remember and be fearful of you if you do that often. You should never hit your kitten, unless you want her to be afraid of you.

Just be firm with her. Don't hit her again though, as that may well turn her into a nasty cat.
As others above have said, use a water spray and a firm 'NO' if you catch her doing something she shouldn't be.

no of course not. I doubt she will even remember the incident.
Hitting a kitten is never the best way to train them though.....get a water pray bottle and the next time she is on the table give her a scoosh.

No responsible pet owner hits their pet because they did something wrong. Get a water bottle with a top that can spray the water. Cats hate water and she will soon learn that if she does something wrong again. you will spray her with the water bottle.
Never hit your cat as a way of punishing her.
