My kids take honor classes in school to look good for college. My daughter was upset that she got a C for a grade in her honors English. She has to have 3.5 or better to get the promise scholorship. Some of her friends are in the regular classes and are making the grades. Is it fair that for them trying harder to push themselves that they should suffer for taking the honor classes? If they were in regular classes they would have all A's. Is there anyone that has been through this that can help?

I did, I took Ap classes instead of normal ones, right now im kind of suffering (i meant was passing but not ace-ing) but It helped me in college, guess what? my college is easier than my high school years!

All i gotta say is that if you suffer now, you'll enjoy late. vice versa.

Okay, I took honors and AP courses in high school. Honors courses aren't that bad. If you were invited into an honors class then you will probably be able to handle the work. Most of the time, honors classes move at a quicker pace than regular classes. You will probably get some homework, but it is nothing compared to AP or IB courses. I know that in one of my honors courses, I had homework practically every night. However, my teacher always offered extra help. You can always go to them before or after school to learn more. AP and IB courses are different because you are dealing with a college curriculum. You are preparing for an exam that costs $80 to take and can make a hundred dollar difference when you get to college. The thing about honors classes is that they are a bit more serious. You won't be doing as many crafty or fun projects. I remember that my first AP teacher let her other classes do cultural food activities while the entire time we had to study quietly. Even though you don't get as many projects, yours are usually more fun-filled and exciting. Everyone will be jealous!! Good luck, and don't be nervous!!

Yes, the harder classes you take in high school the better prepared you are for college, and colleges dont look at GPAs always. Starting to look if the student took college level courses, and higher math courses. Getting a C in a intro college course in High School looks better to most schools than getting a A in a course that is meant for a 8th grader.

i hated my honors classes in HS for that reason... because my other non-honors friends were doing much better. But to make her feel better, a C in an honors class is like an A in every other class.
i personally didn't like them so i decided not to take any more honors courses. i felt it was too much information in too little time and i wasn't learning anything. but i'm a quitter, so i don't really want to tell you to have her quit the classes. eventually it will look good on her college apps and it's early in the school year, so she has time to adjust to the workload.

yes. i believe they do. taking honors class will help her in the long run. just tell her to stay focus and dont pay attention to her friends in the regular classes. because i am now in college and because i took advanced and Ap classes i had a better change to go anywhere than my friends that were taking regular classes.

Honor classes in my opinion is harder just to separate the smart kids from the bad kids... Honors isn't too bad, but AP is college-level and those are hard. If she is getting C's in Honors English then she shouldn't be in that class.

When applying for college they dont look at your high school courses. All you submit to them, basically, is your GPA and ACT/SAT score. Colleges have minimum requirements for those..they dont really care about classes taken.

Ive taken honor courses and it didnt matter...the only thing noticed was my GPA and ACT score.
