Sports teaches "teamwork". This is important because, with very few exceptions, you will probably be a "part" of a bigger something throughout your entire life. Most jobs stress teamwork, being married has to be done with a team-like mentality, raising children is a team effort. You rarely do the most important things in your life alone. Kids need to learn at an early age that accomplishing goals by working with others is a great attribute to have in life, and in reality, it's a necessity. "Loners" don't do as well as people who are willing and capable to work with others. Plus, sports are supposed to be fun! Marriages, kids, and jobs are all very stressful at times. Sports teach you the self-discipline to deal with others who may be much worse than you or much better than you. I was never good at sports, but I loved playing, and I'm glad I did. Still to this day (I haven't played any kind of organized sport in 19 years) I remember people and situations I was in when I played, and I use what I learned back then, mistakes and all.

Try any martial arts from an Asian instructor, music also teaches discipline, if you practice as you should.
Not selling your integrity or virtues, living a life based upon your moral principles and being responsible for yourself, at all times, also requires discipline.
