It's his way of expressing his love for you when you get home from a hard day at work or school. He expects you to love him back for it by sniffing or crapping in the same spot it did

I think he is sick...
my dog did that one it's because she went into shock adn would always get scared so she went to the vet and the vet said there was not hope...
so take him to the vet he might just be sick or eating the wrong dog food or he is emotionally sick like whenever you leave he doest that..

The age of your dog could be a factor. If it's physically matured recently, then this might be the issue. They often miss the signs they need to go when they're feeling "frisky".

Have not much info is this a pup? In anycase you need to put him in a crate, till you can see if its medical or separation caused, but dont let behavior continue all over house...it will be harder to stop.

hate to break it to you, but dogs are just like us. they go a couple of times a day. you should probably stop feeding it cuz what goes in must come out.

Put him in a kennel-- they normally don't use the bathroom where they have to lay/sleep. Of put the dog outside.
